Videos emerge of no-nonsense Strike Force Raptor cop

AN Aussie cop has gained a fearsome reputation for taking on bikies, as new videos emerge of the tough officer enforcing the law.

Senior Constable Andrew Murphy confronts motorcyclist

SENIOR Constable Andrew Murphy of NSW Police is gaining a bit of a reputation for his no-nonsense tactics of law enforcement.

Dubbed “Raptor 13”, the fearless cop serves at the heart of an elite NSW police squad called Strike Force Raptor which takes to the streets to target and disrupt outlaw motorcycle gang members in every aspect of their lives.

He has previously been captured on camera appearing to throw a motorcyclist’s licence on the ground and holding a metal pole to a man’s head in a dramatic incident just over two years ago.

But over the weekend, Constable Murphy’s policing was thrust in the spotlight again after footage, uploaded on to social media on Saturday, appeared to show him shove a motorcyclist in a confrontation when the officer asked him to move his bike.

In the video, Constable Murphy is seen to approach the man, described as a “Veterans MC member”, while he is surrounded by fellow police officers.

“Hold on, I have not touched you. I am moving, but you’re not going to talk down to me,” the motorcyclist says to Constable Murphy, after the officer shoves him with both hands in the clip, which was reportedly filmed at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

“I’m gonna talk directly to your face,” Constable Murphy replied before directing the motorcyclist to move his bike again.

A spokeswoman for NSW Police told news.com.au today that this incident has been reviewed by the force and independently by the State Crime Command’s Professional Standards Unit. According to the spokeswoman, the reviews found that the officer “acted appropriately in dealing with this matter”.

“Further, based on the information reviewed, the conduct of all officers involved in the police operation were in accordance with their duties and within police guidelines,” she said.

Just a day earlier, uploaded footage of Constable Murphy showed him pulling over two motorcyclists in Bankstown, in Sydney’s west, using a tape measure and pointing out the non-compliant features of their modified bikes.

Constable Murphy also made headlines when he became involved in a dramatic clash with mourners heading to the funeral of slain bikie boss Mahmoud “Mick” Hawi two weeks ago.

The NSW Police officer drew a taser as he got into a verbal stoush with one of Hawi’s friends.

“Brother, there’s 30 of us and there’s two of you, show some respect,” the man tells the officer, getting in his face.

Pushing the man away, the officer responds: “I don’t care. You’re going to be searched — stand against the fence all of you. You’re all being searched for firearms and drugs.”

In another incident, which NSW Police says happened on February 28, the police officer is alleged to have placed defect notices on cars in a panel shop.

NSW Police told news.com.au that the specialist Strike Force Raptor squad raided the smash repair garage as part of inquiries it was conducting into the circumstances surrounding a car crash on June 19, 2016.

A spokesman for the force said officers seized documentation but also used their powers to conduct a business inspection and vehicle inspections.

“During the inspections, police issued an infringement for licensee fail to keep register in accordance with s100, and issued 22 defect notices, including four red major grounded defects, on vehicles at the location.,” the spokesman said.

“Offices also seized four numberplates, which included fraudulent plates, and expired plates not returned to Roads and Maritime Services.

“Following further investigations, Strike Force Raptor charged two men on Monday for allegedly submitting a fraudulent insurance claim following the June 2016 crash.”

Although many on social media have praised the fearless cop for his actions, several of the incidents, which have been caught on camera, have attracted criticism.

There are now petitions with thousands of signatures and various Facebook pressure groups are calling for an investigation of several incidents involving the officer.

However, a spokeswoman for NSW Police told news.com.au that every single incident mentioned in the petitions and Facebook groups had already been investigated. She said the reviews found “no issues” with his behaviour.

The creator of one of the petitions, which calls for a formal investigation into the incidents has collected almost 13,500 signatures.

“There is a multitude of evidence that officer Murphy has gone too far in his duties as a police officer and something needs to be done!” the petition maker claims. “Disciplinary action must be taken for obvious reasons. Police should be protecting our civilians instead of harassing them.”
