A one-year-old child has died after being struck by a car in Sydney’s west, with a man taken into custody.

A one-year-old baby has died after being hit by a car in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Edna Ave in Toongabbie late on Friday afternoon to find the child had been hit by an Audi 4WD.

The driver reportedly tried to assist before paramedics arrived but the baby died at the scene.

A man has been taken into custody.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation has begun.
