‘Grim’ Christmas tree divides Sydney’s Balmain community
A recently erected town Christmas tree is lacking sparkle according to some in the community.
A recently erected Christmas tree is failing to bring much cheer and joy to its community, with one local labelling it as “very sad”.
A photo of the tree, which was recently placed out the front of Woolworths in Balmain, in Sydney’s inner west, made its way onto the local community Facebook group that has kicked off a debate about the tree’s appearance.
Many find the festive tree and its decorations to be underwhelming, labelling it as “disappointing”, “grim” and “old looking”, while others believe the haters are being a bit “entitled”.
It’s believed to be the same tree that was used in past years, just with fewer decorations, which drew the ire of one local ratepayer.
“Time to have something new, we are paying enough rates,” they wrote.
Though some came to the defence of the tree and its reuse.
“What’s wrong with it? It looks good and surely being sustainable and not chucking a tree out every year is a far better process?” one wrote.
Others took issue with those who felt the need to air their disappointment in the town’s decoration.
“The pretentiousness is astounding,” they said.
Hopefully, as we get closer to the holidays, Christmas cheer will prevail and everyone can get along, underwhelming tree or not.
