Mum apologises after baby’s huge Christmas gift haul angers online
A Sydney mum has apologised after a snap of her baby’s huge Christmas present pile was branded “crazy” by angry parents.
A Sydney mother has apologised after she shared a controversial photo of her baby’s Christmas presents.
The mum-of-one was excited to share a picture of the massive amount of gifts her baby boy has gotten for his first ever festive season.
She showed off a mountain of toys, alongside a caption that read “Has anyone else’s parents gone crazy for baby’s first Christmas?”
The haul featured a wide selection of plush and block toys, books, clothes, baby formula, and dummies.
The mum posted the photos to a Facebook group with other parents, but was quickly met with harsh criticism from strangers who were “horrified” at the amount of things her son was receiving.
“Don’t be offended when the baby gets over unwrapping after the second gift,” one said.
“Sorry I don’t want to be a negative Nancy, and I mean no offence by this, but this is ridiculous. He is a baby and will never remember all of these things,” another wrote.
“I’m just imagining how many batteries you’ll be replacing,” a third remarked.
While many were unimpressed by the giant haul, others thought it was “sweet” and a nice way to celebrate the baby’s first Christmas.
“I actually love this and love seeing these kinds of posts for other kids!” one group member said.
“I grew up homeless, without gifts, food, necessities due to being in an abusive and neglected home/foster homes and it really makes my heart happy to see others spoiled,” another person shared.
After being slammed about the sheer amount of gifts for her baby, the mum issued an apology and clarified a few points.
She stated she was “aware” there were less fortunate people out there, and that she would be donating anything not needed.
“Sorry to those that are offended or have a negative view,” she wrote.
“Baby has an overexcited grandma on his first Christmas (she’s overcompensating for being an unavailable parent in my childhood).
“Everything is being divided into gifts for this and next Christmas, his first birthday, regifting and donations.”
She went on to explain while she took the photo, she “didn’t buy any of it” and stressed she was “aware this is excessive”.
“The crazy accumulated amount of stuff that we don’t need has been donated to a foster care company for children born addicted.”
Many later backed her up and said she should not have to apologise to strangers on the internet.
“No need to say sorry mama. You haven’t done anything wrong!” one wrote.
“Don’t let the downers get to you,” said another.
“Your son is obviously so loved and adored!”
