Coronavirus Sydney: Fitness First Rockdale has sent a warning to members to get tested

A Fitness First in Sydney has urged some members to get tested after a person who visited last week was infected with coronavirus.

NSW records 12 new coronavirus cases

A gym in Sydney’s south has been closed for deep cleaning after a person exercised there and later tested positive for coronavirus.

Fitness First in Rockdale contacted its members to advise that anyone who attended last Monday between 11.25am to 12.30pm should get tested.

Former Nine reporter Chris Urquhart shared an update on Sunday morning on Twitter about the gym.

It’s understood the premises have been closed for deep cleaning.

News.com.au has contacted Fitness First for comment.

It’s not the first Sydney gym — or first Fitness First branch — to have had an active COVID-19 case visit in recent days.

Just two days ago, news.com.au reported on a person infected with COVID-19 visiting the St Leonards Fitness First gym in Sydney’s north shore.

The Kings Cross Fitness First gym also reported a case of COVID-19.

A gym in Casula also shut its doors, as a precaution after a cluster of cases at the nearby Crossroads hotel.

The rise in cases in city gyms prompted the NSW Government to impose a change to COVID Safe rules, with gyms now required to have marshals present while open.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced on Wednesday that fitness centres must have a dedicated hygiene marshal on duty at all times.

The rule applies to gyms that would normally operate without a staff member present — like a 24 hour fitness gym in the middle of the night.

Ms Berejiklian said gyms and fitness centres will also have to register their COVID Safety Plan for approval.
