An elderly man has been found alive and well on a rugged track in Sydney’s Royal National Park after spending a night in the wilderness, NSW Police have said.

An urgent multi-agency search was launched for the 83-year-old man, who was last seen leaving his home at Heathcote in Sydney’s south just before 2pm on Friday.

In good news, the man was on Saturday morning found alive and well on the Kangaroo Creek Track in the Royal National Park.

After being given the all-clear by paramedics, he was winched to safety by the police air unit and taken to Sutherland Hospital as a precaution.

“Police would like to thank all involved, including the public and media for their assistance,” NSW Police said in a statement.
