SHE’S cooked in high-pressure reality TV kitchens and feeds the hungry Sydney Swans, but Courtney Roulston said simply serving up bacon and eggs to the needy gives her the most satisfaction.

For the second year running, the ex-MasterChef contestant and chef for the AFL team is teaming up with Club York to cook a hot breakfast for clients of The Station drop-in centre in the CBD.

Ms Roulston’s involvement is part of Do Something Day, a national initiative which highlights the importance of volunteering.

“We’re not asking for people to give up three weeks of their time, you can do something really small that has a positive impact,” she said.

She will be cooking bacon and eggs for about 50 homeless people on Thursday, from 6.30am.

“I can see the difference food can make to people. It puts a smile on their faces,” she said.

“A hot breakfast for the homeless is a way I can brighten up their day a little bit.

“It’s really cold in the city, I couldn’t imaging not having home to live in and not be able to prepare yourself a meal.”

The Station provides a free breakfast every day, with a hot breakfast on Mondays and manager Graciela Luna said it’s something everyone looks forward to.

“It starts their week on a very positive note,” she said.

Club York CEO, Rocky Massaria will be cooking alongside Ms Roulston on Thursday.

“We’ve been supporting The Station through various schemes for about 12 years,” he said.

“We have a charity BBQ every third Wednesday of the month, it’s run by staff who give up their lunchtime and we donate the funds — $3 for a beer and a sausage — to nominated charities like The Station.

“We feel that as a club we owe it to the community to support it.”

* Do Something Day is on July 25. It celebrates giving and making a contribution to the local community. You can do something by volunteering, donating or a random act of kindness. For more information go to dosomethingday.com.au
