Two men wearing balaclavas arrested near John Ibrahim’s home in Dover Heights, Sydney
Two men with balaclavas, including one carrying a gun, have been arrested near the home of Sydney identity John Ibrahim.
Two men with balaclavas and armed with a gun have been arrested after a police pursuit in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
A police operation was launched in Dover Heights on Thursday morning after police received reports two men – aged 20 and 24 – were acting suspiciously, with one man allegedly carrying a gun in George St in the city.
NSW Police Eastern Suburbs crime manager Adam Solah said police began a pursuit of the two men travelling in their vehicle that ended after “violent struggles” on Old South Head Rd.
He said one of the men was arrested while still seated in the car, but the other man allegedly fled on foot before he was arrested a “short distance” away.
Inspector Solah commended the two officers who “wrestled” with both the men despite knowing they were possibly armed.
Police will allege they also found a loaded semiautomatic firearm and a revolver in the car.
While the men had been spotted near the home of Sydney identity John Ibrahim, Inspector Solah said police were trying to determine why the two men were on George St allegedly armed with weapons.
“At this stage it doesn't look like the men are linked to that area at all and they came from an area outside Dover Heights,” he said.
“Why they were there will form a key line of our inquiry.”
Inspector Solah urged anyone with information to contact police.
