A man remains under police guard in hospital after allegedly throwing a strange item into a shopping centre bathroom.

A man has been arrested and is under police guard at a hospital after he allegedly threw bottles inside a shopping centre bathroom.

The 21-year-old allegedly threw bottles inside a level one bathroo at the Miranda Westfield shopping centre in Sydney’s south just after 2pmon Wednesday, which have now been seized for further forensic analysis.

The centre was not evacuated.

Police established several crime scenes and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.

At about 2.16pm officers arrested the man and seized a knife, a bottle, and other items.

The man has been taken to Sutherland Police Station but was later taken to hospital for treatment of a minor injury and an assessment.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information is urged to come forward.
