Teen charged over brutal home invasion in Lake Macquarie
An alleged home invasion by brutal bandits armed with baseball bats and knives left a man dead with a mystery arm injury. Now a second man has been charged.
A second man has been charged with murder after the death of another man during a home invasion at Lake Macquarie last week.
The 23-year-old man was arrested at a home at Windale on before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to a pre-existing injury.
The man was released from hospital earlier today and taken to Belmont Police Station.
He was charged with murder, steal from person, impersonate police officer and exercise powers/functions, and police pursuit without stopping and driving recklessly.
Police will allege in court that the man was one of three people — armed with baseball bats and knives — who broke into the Whitebridge home and attacked a 60-year-old man in his bedroom.
The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
Police said their investigations were continuing as they search for the third man involved.
It comes after a 19-year-old man was charged with murder after the horrific home invasion carried out by the masked attackers.
Emergency services were called to the home on Lonus Avenue, about 2.30am on December 17 where they found a 60-year-old man with serious injuries.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital where he died a short time later.
The man’s two brothers were home at the time but were not injured.
Police would not specify what type of injury the man sustained in the attack when asked by news.com.au, only that he received a “serious injury to his arm”.
Lake Macquarie Superintendent Daniel Sullivan told news.com.au the brothers were awake at the time of the attack and were assisting police with injuries.
Supt Sullivan said officers were looking after their welfare.
“The victim is known to police and that’s a line of inquiry we are pursuing,” Mr Sullivan said.
The 60-year-old victim answered the door, he said.
“There is evidence that he answered the door, which would suggest he was awake at the time,” he added. “We were told assailants entered the home and then went into the deceased man’s bedroom.”
This morning, NSW Police revealed that officers arrested a 19-year-old man at a home on Warners Bay Road, Charlestown, about 8.45am yesterday.
He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with murder.
Police are investigating if it could have been a targeted attack.
Detectives have also established Strike Force Lacrozia to investigate the man’s death and are encouraging anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers.
The alleged murderer was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
