10-year-old girl is dead after allegedly being stabbed by 17-year-old sister

A 10-year-old girl has died after allegedly being stabbed by her own teenage sister at a home in the Hunter Valley.

A 10-year-old girl has been stabbed to death, allegedly by her own sister, in the New South Wales Hunter Region.

Police were called at 3.45pm on Monday to a house in Boolaroo, 20km west of Newcastle.

It’s been reported the girl had stabbed multiple times.

Ambulance crews had treated the girl at the scene, but she died from her injuries.

Officers arrested a 17-year-old girl at the home who has been taken to Belmont Police Station.

“Both girls are believed to be known to one another,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The The Daily Telegraph has reported that the 17-year-old is the dead girl’s sister.

A crime scene has been established as investigations continue. No one else was hurt in the incident.

“It is just beyond words. We are grieving” one neighbour told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Forensic offices were still at the home late on Monday evening collecting evidence.
