Two hours after the girl was stabbed, a knife-wielding man was tackled to the ground by parents after he arrived at a sports field in Western Sydney’s Hebersham with the weapon.

No one was injured during the incident, and police arrested the 25 year-old and took him to Nepean Hospital under police guard as investigators continue to investigate the incident.

The girl’s death is the third fatal stabbing in NSW in the past four days amid a string of violent knife crime incidents across NSW in recent weeks, including the Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing massacre and the stabbing of a bishop at a Sydney church. which led to a riot.

A 16-year-old was allegedly killed at Narromine in the state’s west last Friday evening. Police found the teenager suffering from a wound to his neck at about 9pm. He was rushed to Dubbo airport where he was to be airlifted to a Sydney hospital but died before the plane took off.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at an address near where the alleged stabbing took place and was charged with murder.

He remains before the courts.

On the same night, a 28-year-old man died after allegedly being stabbed by another man in Quakers Hill in Sydney’s west.

Police allege they found the man seriously injured with a knife wound to the chest on a neighbour’s porch in Narcissus Ave around 8.30pm, but he died on the way to hospital.

Toby Cusak, 26, of Quakers Hill was arrested in a vehicle stop at Strathfield on Sunday evening and charged with allegedly murdering the 28 year-old.

In an appearance at Parramatta Local Court on Monday, Cusk did not apply for bail but

his defence solicitor Mr Osman Samin said the case against his client appeared to be “incredibly weak”.

“While the death is really tragic, at this stage it seems to be an incredibly weak case against my client,” Mr Osman Samin said.

“All that can be said at this stage is Mr Cusack is entitled to the presumption of innocence and I ask the public to afford him that entitlement.”

Cusack will remain in custody on remand and return to Parramatta Local Court on July 4.
