Milton Orkopoulos: Disgraced ex-MP to face hearing over alleged parole breaches

Former state minister Milton Orkopoulos will face a hearing this year over allegations he breached his parole for child sex convictions.

Disgraced former Labor MP Milton Orkopoulos is set to face a hearing this year over allegations of breaching his parole conditions.

Orkopoulos allegedly contravened the strict conditions in January, having only been released from prison in December 2019 after serving 11 years behind bars for child sex offences.

Police alleged the convicted paedophile failed to report changes to his personal information, as required under the strict parole conditions.

The 63-year-old faces five counts of failing to reply with reporting conditions.

A court had previously heard some of the breaches related to a conversation with his young granddaughter and for an Instagram account set up in his name.

On Monday his lawyer Omar Juweinat told Central Local Court negotiations were ongoing with prosecutors ahead of the hearing in December.

Mr Juweinat said there was a chance some matters could be resolved before the hearing.

Orkopoulos was elected to NSW parliament in 1999 in the seat of Swansea, and served as minister for Aboriginal Affairs from 2005 until his arrest the following year.

Orkopoulos’ parole was revoked in February and he has been held on remand since.

The matter will return to court on December 15.
