Four thousand dollars worth of business vouchers will be given away to recreational fishers in a lucrative Dry season competition.

Palmerston Council has encouraged anglers of all ages to cast their lines for one of 110 tagged barramundi released into Sanctuary Lakes, Durack Lakes and Marlow Lagoon.

In its fourth year, the Hooked on Palmerston catch and release competition runs from June to September, with successful punters taking home vouchers for local businesses.

Palmerston mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell said the competition would encourage fishers to “make the most of our beautiful lakes”.

“This competition not only promotes recreational fishing but also strengthens our local economy and brings our community together,” Ms Pascoe-Bell said.

“Community recreation is at the heart of Palmerston’s spirit … we encourage everyone to make the most of our beautiful lakes and enjoy the dry season with family and friends.”

Fishers can register for the competition at palmerston.nt.gov.au.

The council has urged participants to follow all fishing guidelines, be alert for crocodiles and ensure fishing equipment is free of weeds before departing.
