Live Breaking News: Melbourne wakes up to five day lockdown after Sydney cases move south
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has wasted no time in sticking the boot into NSW during day one of his state's fifth lockdown.
Victorians are waking up to a new, five-day lockdown after Sydney's disastrous covid outbreak spilled over the border.
On Thursday afternoon, Premier Daniel Andrews announced the news Victorians had been dreading, revealing a snap lockdown would come into effect from midnight until at least midnight Tuesday in a desperate bid to contain the spread of the highly transmissible Delta strain.
But it didn't take long for Victorians to erupt over the news, with high-profile residents and everyday citizens alike taking to social media to vent their frustrations - and blame NSW for the crisis.
On Friday, another six new local cases were confirmed, with the new infections bringing the state's current outbreak to 24. There are now 36 active cases in the state.
During today's press conference, Mr Andrews took several subtle swipes at NSW, which is currently in its fifth week of extended lockdown.
