Greater Sydney lockdown extended until August 28 after 177 new local cases

Sydney rapper Chillin It 420 has blasted Gladys Berejiklian in an extraordinary rant, after the NSW Premier announced today the city would remain under lockdown for another four weeks.

In a series of videos posted to his Instagram story, the artist, whose real name is Blake James, wrote he was "fuming" Ms Berejiklian "has blocked album three" before launching into his tirade.

"And here's my message, I'll try to keep it calmer. As somebody who has had his New Zealand tour shut down, multiple tours shut down, my third album – you won't even let me record my third album one-on-one anymore – I'll be as calm as possible. Gladys, you big-nosed f**k, please wake up," he said.

"Anybody out there, I know it's tough times, I plead to you, let's start making a change, let's start pleading to all of this government, whatever it is we've gotta do. Whether Covid's real, not, I don't know, I'm not a doctor, but all I do know, is just end this lockdown and let the people keep f**king living."

Vaccine bungle: 159 to get third jab

More than 150 Queenslanders will need a third jab after a “possible administration error” led to a handful of recipients receiving an ultra-low dosage of the Pfizer jab.

Up to six people received the inadequate supply of the vital jab at the Rockhampton Hospital, but Queensland Health said it was impossible to know who these recipients were, meaning all 159 from that day will need to return and get another shot.

Before the jab is administered, a vial of Pfizer is diluted with saline to allow it to provide six injections, but a second portion of saline was added to a dosage last Wednesday.

“It is not possible to pinpoint or narrow the timeframe beyond the day of the vaccination in which the event occurred, as there is no ability to trace which vial was used to vaccinate which patient,” Queensland Health said in a statement.

“All vials used that day had the same batch number.”

Chief health officer Jeannette Young said the error was not a safety concern for those who received the six jabs, but half a dozen of those who attended the hospital on July 22 “may not be fully vaccinated”.

“Of those 159, 55 were there for their first dose and 104 were there for their second dose,” the top doctor said.

“To ensure full vaccination of all 159 people, everyone who received a vaccination that day will be offered a new appointment to receive a repeat dose.

“It essentially means these people will be getting an early booster shot of Pfizer.”

Victorians have been dealt a significant blow on their first day of freedom from a fifth Covid-19 lockdown with a new mystery case uncovered who spent time in the community while potentially infectious.

The Department of Health updated its exposure site list this afternoon, adding four new locations where the mystery case visited.

They were all Tier 2 sites, meaning anyone who had been there during the listed times needed to get tested urgently and isolate until a negative result was received.

  • FRANKSTON: Ritchies IGA; Corner of Golf Links and Hastings Road; July 24 between 4.10pm and 4.35pm; Tier 2.
  • FRANKSTON: Karingal Hub shopping centre; July 24 between 11.45am and 12.40pm; Tier 2.
  • FRANKSTON SOUTH: United Petroleum Baxter 284 Frankston-Flinders Road; July 26 between 7.15am and 7.30am; Tier 2.
  • FRANKSTON: Coles Supermarket; Karingal Hub shopping centre; July 24 between 11.45am and 12.40pm; Tier 2.

The positive case was the state’s ninth new infection revealed on Wednesday and worked as a traffic controller at a Covid-19 drive-through testing site at Moonee Valley racecourse in Melbourne’s northwest.

Wild new details have been revealed about the Sydney tradie who breached the city's lockdown to travel to Queensland while positive with the Delta variant, and the flight attendant who accompanied him there from Ballina.

Police alleged that George Thompson left the NSW capital to meet up with a flight attendant in Ballina during lockdown, with the pair then travelling through the Sunshine State.

Yesterday, both were slapped with hefty fines for breaking Queensland's border rules, and both have tested positive.

Now, The Courier Mail has revealed further details about the pair, including the flight attendant, 36-year-old Malynda Gray (who also goes by Mel Waterhouse).

Ms Gray, who contracted the virus after driving Mr Thompson into Queensland on July 14, claimed to have dated cop killer Ricky Maddison, describing him as "the most caring person I know".

The paper reports that Ms Gray was seeing Maddison seven years before he lured police into an ambush near Gatton and opened fire with a machine gun, killing Senior Constable Brett Forte.

"We were together for a while and in that time he was the most caring person I knew," she said in 2017.

"I don't believe the allegations against him from my loving experiences with him. He used to make me laugh all the time. He was an amazing, caring person."

Mr Morrison has claimed Australia's vaccine roll out will be done and dusted by Christmas, despite a series of delays and setbacks.

“By the end of the year we will be in that position, where everybody who has had the opportunity will have had it,” he said this afternoon.

“I would expect by Christmas that we would be seeing a very different Australia to what we are seeing now…Lockdowns become a thing of the past when you are at that level.

“That gets us a roadmap to Christmas, I think, which means we will be living life different at Christmas than we are now."

Cumberland City Council mayor Steve Christou has issued a scathing statement on NSW's extended lockdown.

His LGA is one of eight in Sydney currently facing the harshest restrictions yet, which he says has been "devastating".

"Families and businesses in western Sydney have struggled through the first five weeks, only to be told they will be burdened with another four weeks," the statement reads.

"It’s sad but true that many businesses and families will not recover. I’ve heard from many in the community that they are struggling to pay rent, mortgages and other bills. It’s devastating that the many businesses that support families will not re-open.

"The construction ban continues on our local government area – obstructing people from making a living. For many, it’s Armageddon."

The PM has confirmed the government has been working on a program of additional support which includes "enhanced measures" for those affected by Covid lockdowns.

He said the government would be ramping up support for individuals through the Covid Disaster Payment across NSW.

From next week, the maximum payment of $600 will increase to $750.

The payment for those who work less than 20 hours will also increase from $375 to $450.

"In addition to that, we will be extending support to those who are on welfare payments and they will be able to receive a payment if they have lost more than eight hours of $200," he said.

The Premier has given a grim warning to those who continue to visit family members outside their own household.

She said those who think they're doing their relatives a favour by dropping by could actually be signing their "death sentence".

She gave the example of a funeral which resulted in 45 out of 50 attendees later testing positive.

"…you might think you are doing your grandmother or your aunt a favour by dropping in and giving them food or going into say hello, but that could be that death sentence," she said.

"Do not do it. "

Three extra LGAs – Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges River – have been added to NSW's red zone list.

It means people in those areas will no longer be permitted to leave for work, unless they have an exemption.

At the moment, the eights LGAs on the list include: Cumberland, Canterbury-Bankstown, Blacktown, Liverpool and Fairfield, with the three new additions of Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges River.
