Repeal NT paperless arrest law: Amnesty

AMNESTY International has called on the federal government to scrap the NT's controversial paperless arrest laws after the High Court upheld them.

THE federal government should step in and scrap the Northern Territory's controversial paperless arrest laws for being incompatible with human rights, Amnesty says.

THE High Court on Wednesday upheld the laws which allow police to detain someone on the suspicion of having committed a minor crime that carries no jail time for four hours without access to a lawyer, or longer if intoxicated.
