Mary Fowler injured her knee playing for Manchester City

With Sam Kerr still a while away from a return a knee injury to Matildas teammate and star Mary Fowler is not good news.

Matildas and Manchester City officials are holding their breath hoping a knee injury to superstar Mary Fowler is “not the worst” as Sam Kerr still remains a few weeks away from her own return from an ACL injury.

Fresh off a star showing for the Matildas in two wins over Korea, Fowler limped off after 20 minutes in Man City’s FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester United.

Fowler needed several minutes of treatment on the pitch after she appeared to wrench her right knee while.

Sensing anxiety over Fowler’s status, City’s interim manager Nick Cushing said it “doesn’t look great imminently.”

But he then moved to suggest it might not be an ACL injury.

“To lose Mary Fowler in an important game at an early stage, and to lose a goal, was catastrophic,” he said.

“It is her knee. I don’t want to speculate, but we’re not fearing the worst.”

Fowler as able to get back to her feet after initially going down and walked from the field.

But the 22-year-old had to be substituted in the 24th minute by Naomi Layzell,watching on as her team against missed out on silverware having made a Champions League exit at the hands of Chelsea.

The defeat ended any chance of Fowler and Kerr going head-to-head in the FA Cup after Chelsea won through the final without the Matildas captain.

Chelsea have reported Kerr remains “a few weeks away” from getting back into action after her own long-standing ACL injury.

Kerr hasn’t’;t played since injuring her knee in January, 2024.
