Melbourne Cup Day 2017: Bright colours on show at Flemington
AUSTRALIAN model Samantha Harris found out the hard way that a light silk dress with a high split on a gusty day is a very dangerous combination.
MODEL Samantha Harris suffered an awkward wardrobe malfunction when her light silk dress whipped up in the windy weather at the Melbourne Cup.
The Australian beauty tried desperately to hold down her long-sleeved Zimmermann wrap dress as a gust blew through the birdcage enclosure. Harris, 27, eventually recovered her composure to show off the elegant gold dress in a less breezy spot.
The fashion pack was out in force for the biggest day of the Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington. Apparently there was some kind of horse race on.
But let’s be honest, we’re here for the outfits.
The Block winner Elyse Knowles has been a regular fixture on the racing circuit this season, showing off a series of glam looks after 13 weeks of slumming it in boots and sneakers on the renovating reality show.
She has absolutely smashed it out of the park with this bold, tangerine dress from Cappellazzo Couture and a kooky headpiece.
Bec Judd brought the heat to a miserably wet and soggy Melbourne in a stunning hot pink bodycon dress by Lolitta and a broad-brimmed straw hat.
As is customary at Melbourne Cup, one of the event sponsors always pays an exorbitant amount of money for a B-List international celeb to mingle for a few hours in their marquee.
This year Myer has paid for Paris Jackson to be at Flemington and to also attend the Tree of Life staff meetup I presume she’s going to afterwards.
Home and Away star Pia Miller looked smoking hot in a green Dion Lee skirt and top combo.
Myer ambassador Jen Hawkins wore a beautiful Alex Perry gown but battled against the elements as she arrived in the morning.
We’re happy to report that Channel Seven’s reporter Francesca Cumani got the memo early enough and wore something different to Cup Day, after she and Hawkins wore the same black-and-white Jonathan Simkhai dress to Derby Day on Saturday.
Fellow Myer ambassadors Rachael Finch and Jodi Gordon stuck to the unofficial dress code of Melbourne Cup and both wore bright colours.
Nice to see something different — here’s Myer’s Lauren Phillips in a sexy lace suit.
Nadia Bartel, fashion blogger and wife of former AFL star Jimmy Bartel, wore a beautiful custom headpiece by Aussie designer Viktoria Novak.
Anna Heinrich wore a custom Rebecca Vallance marigold dress and a hat from Scanlan Theodore.
Traditional fascinators went out the window as the ladies tried something a little different.
Both fashion blogger Kate Waterhouse and Triple M radio presenter Emma Freedman wore colourful turbans as their millinery.
Aussie model Robyn Lawley gave us sexy Maleficent vibes in this black headpiece-slash-hat.
Bec Hewitt was probably the only person in the Birdcage who actually dressed for the weather.
Sunrise hosts Sam Armytage and Edwina Bartholemew were in full glam well before most of us got out of bed on Cup morning.
Channel Nine newsreader Georgie Gardner was also up early and showed off her look on Instagram.
And Lisa Wilkinson shared a last minute snap of her fabulous hat on social media.
