Derby Day double-up: Two celebs just turned up in the same dress

WELL this is a little awkward. Two celebs have turned up in exactly the same dress to Derby Day. What happened next?

IT’S one of the biggest fashion nightmares. You turn up to a big event, and some other dame is wearing the same dress as you.

It was an issue that “our” Princess Mary faced earlier this week, when she rolled up to a soiree in the same dress as this woman.

Mary owned the situation, sidled up to her twinsie and made a photo opp out of it.

The exact same thing happened at Flemington today, when two celebs arrived in the same dress for Derby Day.

First up, we have Myer ambassador Jennifer Hawkins in the black and white dress by New York designer Jonathan Simkhai:

Channel Seven horseracing identity Francesca Cumani has also been photographed at Flemington in the same dress.

The Derby Day dress code is black and white, so the number of dresses Myer has to provide to celebs is certainly decreased.

But surely providing the exact same dress to two women who are going to be all over the media coverage of the event is a little bit of an oversight?

A public relations specialist from Myer explained it to news.com.au as follows:

“We are only aware of Jen’s brand which is Jonathan Simkhai. Francesca is not our talent. Channel 7 wardrobe manage her.

“Contractually Channel 7 talent must wear Myer brands. No further comment will be provided.”

By the time the TV coverage went to air, Cumani had a black coat over the dress.

Whether she had been instructed to “put a jacket on” Amber Sherlock style is anyone’s guess.

Hawkins had earlier in the day commented the dress had only just made it to Melbourne from the US in time for her to wear before Cumani was also spotted sporting it.

Hawkins didn’t seem bothered by the situation, saying “no biggie! It’s never happened to me before. Francesca looked so gorgeous!”

Cumani returned the compliment, telling Sydney Confidential “I’ve always admired Jen’s style from afar, and now I’m flattered to be seen in the same dress.”

It wasn’t the only fashion faux pas committed at Derby Day. Bachelor reality star Anna Heinrich was called out on social media after posting an image to Instagram.

The shot prompted questions from her followers as to whether she had photoshopped the image with the shoulder strap from her bag strangely appearing to be growing out of the side of her arm.

Which other celebs are at Derby Day this year?

Karl Stefanovic has joined his girlfriend, shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough, in the Emirates marquee, after he was a no-show at the Caulfield Cup amid drama on the Today Show.

While there are no international stars on the Derby Day guest list, plenty of Australian exports have flown in, including singer Natalie Imbruglia, actor Melissa George and models Shanina Shaik and Robyn Lawley.

Imbruglia will perform her hit song “Torn”, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year, in the Sensis marquee.

There are plenty of AFL stars also in attendance.

Gary Ablett will attend “Palazzo Lavazza” in his first appearance since his Geelong homecoming was finalised, joining Marcus Bontempelli, Nat Fyfe, Joel Selwood and young-gun Christian Petracca, who will be working the coffee machine.

Ex-AFL WAG Nadia Bartel arrived wearing a white Dion Lee dress and wide brim Melissa Jackson hat, which blew off in the chilly wind.

“There’s no way I’d change my outfit for the weather,” she told AAP.

“I’ll just be cold!”
