While two in five Australians are scheduling sex ahead of time, according to a recent poll of 1000 people conducted by sexual wellness brand Lovehoney, Geminis are not a part of that cohort. Why someone’s horoscope has anything to do with how willing they are to throw down at any given moment is beyond us, but given how prescient astrology vernacular has become, it’s hardly a surprise.

Nearly half of Sagittarians (48 per cent), meanwhile, admitted to planning intimate time with their partner in advance, followed by Aquarians and Taureans (46 per cent respectively).

Men of all star signs, surprisingly, are more likely to organise when to have sex (49 per cent) than women (38 per cent).

Scheduling sex can be beneficial for a number of reasons, Lovehoney ambassador and male sex coach, Cam Fraser, explained, especially “for people who struggle with spontaneous libido”.

“If sex is scheduled, it can give them and their partner(s) something to build up to, to expect, and prepare for,” he added.

“Scheduling sex can also be great for couples who do not have a lot of room for spontaneity, such as parents or people who work long hours.

“Additionally, [it] may lead to more sexual excitement because you’re able to leverage the sense of anticipation and begin foreplay long before you get to the time that sex is scheduled in your calendar. Ultimately, scheduling sex can demonstrate a commitment to your relationship, improve communication, and guarantee quality time with your partner.”

Lovehoney’s research also delved into at what time of day people most enjoy getting intimate – with two-thirds (61 per cent) sharing their preference is late at night.

Early evening came in second at 14 per cent, followed by early morning 10 per cent. Just two per cent of respondents said they liked midday sex the best.

Fraser said that, when it comes to whether or not there’s a “right” time for sex, it’s not a “one-size-fits-all” situation.

“There are a few different opinions about the ‘ideal’ time of the day to have sex. For example, some people suggest first thing in the morning, as men’s testosterone is the highest at this time,” he explained.

“Other people suggest around three o’clock in the afternoon, as that is the time when men’s and women’s hormones are most in sync. Of course, both of these suggestions presuppose that at least a man is in the relationship.”

Navigating this can be a bit more of a conundrum – cast your mind back to the awkward moment in The White Lotus season two, when Will Sharpe’s character Ethan reveals it’s the reason he and wife Harper (played by Aubrey Plaza) haven’t had a baby.

“The problem is I’m more of a morning-sex guy, and Harper is not a morning person,” he tells their friends over dinner at their luxury Italian resort.

“She’s a night person. But by then, with work and stuff, I’m always fried.”

Intuitive psychologist Dr Carmen Harra told The Independent that, in order to overcome the issue, it’s important couples “speak to each other openly and honestly and explain why it is that you enjoy sex more at a certain time”.

“I encourage the couple who has opposing sexual preferences to take turns – a few times in the morning, a few times at night – as a compromise,” she said.

“I also advise them to let their guard down and not think so much about the time [but rather] the fulfilment that sex provides. Push yourselves out of your comfort zones and enjoy sex with your partner in different positions and places, which will make intimacy more memorable and heighten your arousal for the future.”
