Kim Harnett has revealed some intimate details about her sex life
Love Island’s Kim Harnett has left her fans divided after she shared some intimate details about her sex life and her body.
Former realitystar Kim Harnett has revealed the controversial contracteptive method she uses online, sparking a huge online conversation.
The Love Island Australia star told fans she doesn’t use contraception and instead relies on a “natural” method.
Known in the medical industry as the “pullout method”, it involves ending the sexual experience prematurely in an attempt to prevent pregnancy.
It’s a controversial method of birth control as medical studies show it isn’t as effective as others and doesn’t protect you from contracting sexually transmitted infections.
The pullout method works around 78 per cent of the time. So, about 1 in 5 women get pregnant from relying on it, according to WebMD.
In comparison, condoms are 98 per cent effective if they are used correctly, and the pill is 99 per cent effective.
The Victorian Government’s Better Health website actually advises against the method.
“It is not recommended as a form of contraception due to the risks of sperm being present in the pre-ejaculate or not withdrawing the penis in time.”
But the official advice hasn’t stopped Harnett depending on it - or from sharing the method with over 250k followers during a Q&A on her Instagram. Someone asked what birth control she uses, and she wrote back.
“None. I don’t like the side effects they have on my body. Pull and pray,” she also added a praying hands emoji.
Harnett’s decision to share such information has led to mixed reviews and started a big discussion online.
Influencer Updates - a popular Instagram dedicated to keeping people updated on the controversial things influencers do - reposted her story and asked the question: “How do we feel about influencers sharing these details?”
The answers were mixed.
“How about we don’t critique a woman based on the contraception she chooses for HER body?” Someone commented.
“Tracking your cycle and using the pullout method is birth control. Better than pumping your body full of fake hormones and wondering why you have issues after a decade on the pill,” another added.
“I just think the added notation of ‘pull and pray’ misses the mark. That statement is a little bit off and could have used the post to encourage research and education, not joke about pull out methods and pray you don’t end up pregnant,’ another wrote.
“They asked. She answered. Technically, it isn’t a method of birth control, not to mention a very unreliable one. But if someone decides to follow an unqualified influencer’s personal preference and choices. That’s on you. Not them,” someone else responded.
Hartnett, is a hairdresser that appeared on season one of Love Island Australia and she is a mum of two.
The reality star has a six-year-old son Braxton whom she shares with an ex-partner and in 2022 she welcomed another son Chase with her current partner, professional BMX rider and Bachelor in Paradise star Matt Whyatt.
