Wedding guest slammed for wearing white dress

It’s supposed to be the one day when a bride is the centre of attention, but a guest’s surprising outfit has left one newlywed fuming.

Biggest wedding fails!

An Australian bride has taken to Reddit to vent after a relative wore a white beaded gown to her wedding.

Posting on Reddit’s wedding shaming thread, the woman shared a photo of her and the family member posing on the dance floor.

The bride was wearing an off the shoulder white lace gown, while the female relative was wearing an equally formal white dress that featured a silver belt and sparkly embellishments.

“My relative who flew in from overseas to attend my wedding wore a full white beaded gown,” the bride wrote.

As other Reddit users expressed their shock that a family member would wear a white dress, the bride said that in her Middle Eastern culture women commonly dressed for “weddings in insane gowns and go over the top”.

“It was a wonderful day and to be honest it didn’t bother me at all,” she wrote.

“Unfortunately in my culture a lot of the girls try to out dress the bride and I knew something like this would happen as my dress was simple and only $400aud.

“It’s more on reflection on the day you think ‘wow, I can’t believe people actually do that?!’.”

The bride’s post quickly got plenty of comments from others blasting the relative’s move as “tacky” and unfair.

“That’s just wrong. Rude and wrong,” one person wrote, while another added: “The dress and the woman look tacky; you look lovely.”

However, some pointed out the relative may have just been clueless and not have known it was a fashion faux pas to wear white to a wedding.

“Perhaps it’s a cultural difference? Many other countries don’t have the white dress taboo that America/Australia/a few other countries has. She might not have realised,” one person asked.

“I thought the same, but we are the same ethnic group,” the bride responded. “In fact, traditionally she should have worn blue or pink.

“Personally, I don’t expect them to follow that rule but it was indeed a shock to see that dress.”

MUM COPS BACKLASH FOR ‘EMBARRASSING’ OUTFIT AT SON’S WEDDING

It’s not the first time a wedding outfit has come under fire for upstaging the bride.

Last month, a UK bride revealed how her mother-in-law turned up to her wedding wearing a bridal gown.

The bride’s mother-in-law then tried to sell the dress on Facebook, describing it as a “Mother-of-groom dress and headpiece. Cream and gold stunning dress – paid a lot for it. Selling as won’t wear again”.

However the mother-in-law’s outfit choice was slammed in a wedding shaming Facebook group, where it was described as “embarrassing” and “atrocious”.
