The husband of Sydney influencer Jade Tunchy has been accused of “copying” part of his emotional wedding speech by an influencer watchdog account.

Tunchy and Lachie Brycki tied the knot in a lavish Hunter Valley ceremony in October, after announcing their engagement in January 2021.

In a throwback to the day on TikTok this week, Tunchy shared a video of Brycki’s touching speech to her at their reception, with the caption: “Every time I watch this I cry.”

“Still cant (sic) believe i get to call this man my husband,” she wrote alongside the clip, which has been viewed more than 10 million times.

“I want to end by settling an argument in front of all of you that Jade and I have been bickering over for many years … She’ll often say that ‘I love you’, to which I’ll respond, ‘I love you more’,” Brycki says in his speech, voice cracking with emotion.

“Then she’ll disagree, and we’ll go back and forth to no end. But after today, I think I can finally explain to her what I mean when I say it.

“So Jade, when I say ‘I love you more’, I don’t mean I love you more than you love me. I mean I love you more than the bad days ahead of us. I love you more than any fight we will ever have, I love you more than any amount of distance keeping us apart, and I love you more than any obstacle that will try to come between us. I love you more than anything.

“So from now on, know that when I say ‘I love you’, I don’t just say it out of habit. I say it to you as a reminder of this day, those promises, and [that] you’re the best goddamn thing to ever happen to me. My darling wife, I adore you.”

If the thousands of comments are to be believed, there wasn’t a dry eye there either.

“I’m bawling,” wrote one, while another said: “My standards are now sky high thanks to his voice cracks.”

“This is the best thing I have ever heard in my whole life,” a third commented.

But Instagram account Influencer Updates AU was quick to burst the romantic bubble, revealing the verses Brycki recites in the video are actually from a poem by Erin Nicole that’s all over Pinterest when you search for “love quotes”.

“@lachiebrycki wedding speech to @jadetunchy has gone viral after viewers found he copied lines from a common poem,” the caption on Influencer Updates AU’s post read.

Suffice to say the attempt to “out” Brycki for “plagiarism” went down like a lead balloon – with many pointing out in the comments that seeking inspiration from popular poems or quotes about love is pretty common when it comes to wedding vows or speeches.

“I think just because they aren’t his words doesn’t take away from the meaning of what he said,” wrote one person.

“He clearly resonated well with the poem and meant every word he said, his own words or not.”

A second agreed, writing: “Jesus why do we need to out him for this? Can’t we just let people enjoy their wedding video and if the man wants to use some words from a poem then let him.”

“I thought that was a well known poem … doesn’t take away from the cuteness,” said a third.

“Think anyone getting or who has gotten married has taken inspiration from things online. We aren’t all poets and often writing down our feelings is hard so I don’t find this strange at all,” another commented.

“Mate, this is awful, just let them have their moment. Maybe writing original words wasn’t his forte but he found words that expressed what he felt, and it’s clearly genuine, look at him tearing up,” someone else wrote.

“Don’t take this from people just because they’re in the spotlight. This is a sacred moment for them, let them have it in peace.”
