A former reality star has decided to ditch the idea that “social media is a highlight reel” and get incredibly candid about how she sometimes misses her life before children.
Alex Nation, who appeared on The Bachelor and its spin off Bachelor In Paradise, eventually settled down with Carson, who she has two children with. She also has a son from a previous relationship.
Nation said she wanted to be candid about her life after settling down, saying it has been a “colossal challenge” and it created feelings of resentment.
“There has been a significant lack of emotional connection and intimacy,” Nation said over a happy snap of the couple.
“We have trouble communicating with love and grace. Financial and work pressures get the better of us and we are quick to lash out at each other over financial stresses.”
She said the couple argue and they sometimes have fights in front of the children.
“We sometimes miss the life we had prior to each other and our children. The freedom and independence,” she said.
Nation also said their want for physical affection fluctuates, they clash over parenting styles and they have built resentment towards each other that hasn’t properly been dealt with yet.
“I’m almost certain we’ve both had the ‘Is the grass greener?’ thought. We really struggle with prioritising our relationship and default to things being ‘too hard’ with the kids,” she said.
“At times it feels like we are housemates and not partners/lovers. Sometimes we question if we would better off co-parenting instead.”
Her post resonated with hundreds of people, with Nation taking to her Instagram story to thank people for their kind words.
Nation last made headlines in 2019 after she hit back at mum shamers follower her appearance on the reality show.
While it’s unclear what exactly prompted Nation’s response, the 33-year-old has faced intense public scrutiny over her failed relationship with Bachelor in Paradise co-star, Bill Goldsmith which had been revealed the week before.
“Mum shaming is so f***ing real. It’s toxic, insidious and it’s becoming disturbingly common. Quite frankly, I’m sick of it,” Nation wrote on Instagram at the time.
“Parenting can be absolutely spirit crushing as it is. I can’t even begin to explain eloquently enough the amount of times I have doubted myself over my 8.5 years of being a parent.
“As a young mother I am particularly sensitive to the vulnerable feelings a human can have trying to navigate their way around parenthood.”
Nation added that all parents must face the tough task of choosing “the right thing” for their child but sometimes realise “with the clarity of hindsight, that you should have chosen differently”.
“All you can do is try and learn and grow along the way and try not make the same mistake in the future,” she wrote.
“So shamers, shame on you. We are all just doing our absolute best with this whole Mum thing. Shut your lid, have yourself an orgasm and stop being such damn mean spirited individuals.”
