In Australia snap lockdowns have become the new normal as the country grapples with new variants of coronavirus.

But that doesn’t mean lockdowns have had a staggering impact on all aspects of life, including our dating lives.

So, how do you keep the romance going when you’re in a new relationship and wham, a snap lockdown is called?

According to Jana Hocking, who hosts news.com.au podcast Kinda Sorta Dating, you might need to get creative when it comes to keeping the spark alive.

“Keep doing the walks, get frisky in a public toilet there’s ways to spice it up,” Jana said in this week’s podcast, admitting she had done the deed in a public loo with a previous boyfriend.

It’s worth pointing out though, you’ll need to make sure your impromptu act in a public space can’t be seen as that can get you in trouble with the law.

Jana, who was giving advice to a woman whose partner had suddenly gone “weird” a few months into dating after the Sydney lockdown began, said that it “sucks” to start a new relationship in a pandemic.

“But get creative, have a bit of sexy time on the Skype – don’t record it – send him a few saucy texts,” Jana said.

“Organise walking dates around the park. Maybe this could actually bring you closer than further apart, maybe it will fast track things.”

Jana said it was also important to show “empathy” to anyone you were newly dating in lockdown.

“Don’t take it personally, sometimes some people just need to go off the grid for a while.” she said.
