Tradie dad installs ‘dream’ Macca’s playground
The Victorian mum and her husband stumbled across an unusual eBay listing and didn’t hesitate to snap it up.
When Maggie Brennan was a child she remembers spending glorious weekends playing at park playgrounds.
“My dad would always be building me cubby houses,” the 34-year-old mum-of-two told news.com.au.
“I said to myself when I had kids, I would try and do the same.”
It’s the reason why when she and husband Kieran Brennan spotted an unusual eBay listing two years ago they decided to snap it up.
The couple purchased a second-hand McDonald’s playground for $5000 which, while a bargain, was in need of some love.

“They usually go for about 40 (thousand) brand new,” the tattoo shop owner said.
“Everyone’s like, that’s so expensive and it’s like well, not really when you think about it.
“People spend more on cars and stuff like that, so we just sacrificed that and preferred to get the kids a playground instead.”
The Victorian couple, who live in Darley, aren’t sure how the playground came to be for sale on McDonald’s or which one it came from, however, believe it was likely sold due to the play equipment being upgraded.
Over the years Mr Brennan, who is an electrician by trade, would chip away at the project alongside his father, also called Kieran.
“They cut the legs off it at different lengths and lucky for me (my husband) knows how to weld, he knows how to concrete,” Ms Brennan said.
They finished and installed the playground in their backyard in December 2019 – handy timing for a global pandemic which would force them to stay at home over the next 18 months.

Ms Brennan helped install astro turf and landscape the garden around the playground and this month decided to start posting videos of her backyard on TikTok.
Videos of the playground have gotten hundreds of thousands of views, with people labelling it every child’s dream.
“Reminds me of the old school Macca’s playgrounds from my childhood,” another commented.
“What a freaking dream,” one viewer wrote.
Ms Brennan said the playground had proved popular with her daughters Murphy, 3, and one-year-old Billie, as well as friends and family.
“They absolutely loved it before lockdown,” she said. “All the kids are like, ‘Can we have Christmas at their house this year?’”
The couple now had another project in the works to transform their property into the ultimate kid’s playground.
“We’re just about to get a skate park put in because we’re on an acre and half,” Ms Brennan said.
