US dad allegedly finds prawn tails in cereal box
The man claims he made a disgusting discovery inside the popular cereal brand’s packet – prompting the company to issue a stunning response.
A dad in the United States has made a baffling discovering inside the box of a popular cereal brand.
Comedian and writer Jensen Karp allegedly found two cinnamon-encrusted prawn tails inside a packet of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, he revealed in a now-viral series of tweets.
But despite Karp insisting the find was “not a bit”, the company behind the cereal brand said there is “no possibility” his claim was true.
“Ummmm @CTCSquares – why are there shrimp tails in my cereal? (This is not a bit),” Mr Karp tweeted.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch’s Twitter account responded, tweeting that they were “sorry to see what you found” and would be sending Karp a new box.

But they later followed up with a second tweet, saying that their investigation had found there was no way the cereal contained prawn tails.
“After further investigation with our team that closely examined the image, it appears to be an accumulation of the cinnamon sugar that sometimes can occur when ingredients aren’t thoroughly blended,” the company said in a statement.
“We assure you that there’s no possibility of cross contamination with shrimp.”
But Karp wouldn’t back down, accusing the company of trying to “gaslight me” and sharing close-up photos of the two objects which he alleged were “cinnamon coated shrimp tails”.
In follow-up tweets he also claimed to find a “weird little string” inside the box as well as “black stuff” on some cereal pieces.

Karp also revealed he had “ate a bowl” of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch before finding the tails and his wife had also made a disturbing discovery inside another plastic cereal package inside the box.
“My wife has a stronger stomach than me and checked the OTHER bag in the family pack. This one seems taped up (?) and also appears to include …(I don’t even want to say it) … dental floss,” he tweeted.
Something regarding the stupid âDid he fake this?â take: there are black items COOKED ONTO the squares and tons of it at the bottom of the bag, in addition to shrimp tails and other SUGAR COATED junk. Also, itâs only âviralâ because of their insane response. I wouldâve dropped it pic.twitter.com/WOt9j2V0sg

Karp’s alleged find divided people on Twitter, with some saying his claim felt “way off” while others said it was “really scary” for those with shellfish allergies.
A spokesman for General Mills, the company who makes Cinnamon Toast Crunch, told People they had now asked Karp to send the box to them so it could be inspected.
But the company said they could “say with confidence that this did not occur at our facility”.
“We are waiting for the consumer to send us the package to investigate further. Any consumers who notice their cereal box or bag has been tampered with, such as the clear tape that was found in this case, should contact us,” spokesman Mike Siemienas told the publication.
