A mum has given parents a devastating warning after she slipped away for just four minutes to make a coffee, when tragedy struck.

Instead of celebrating the start of the New Year, the Victorian family is trying to fundraise money for a funeral after their four-year-old tragically drowned in a neighbour’s pool.

Ivy Bella Roze, described as an “adventurous” girl by her aunt, sadly died just before Christmas, on December 17.

She broke through the fence separating her family’s rental with the neighbour and was found in their pool unresponsive. There was no other fencing around the pool.

Despite being airlifted to the Royal Children’s hospital in Melbourne, the little girl reportedly sustained serious damage to her brain and died 11 days later.

Ivy’s mother, Rhiannon Egan-Lee, heartbreakingly discovered her daughter’s body in the water.

Ms Egan-Lee said the damage was done in the space of time it takes to boil a kettle, saying she thought it would be fine to leave her daughter alone in the backyard for four minutes while she made a coffee.

On Saturday, Ms Egan-Lee made the tough decision to switch off her daughter’s life support.

“She put up the hardest fight of her life. She did really well. I’m so proud of her,” Ms Egan-Lee told 7NEWS.

Ivy’s aunt Brittany Beeach, also known as Aunty Ditty, has raised more than $10,000 through GoFundMe to help her sister pay for Ivy’s funeral.

Ivy was playing in her backyard when the disaster struck.

Her aunt, Ms Beeach, said the cousins had played safely in the same backyard for the past year without incident.

It’s believed Ivy removed a paling in the fence to sneak over to her neighbour’s yard.

The family had raised their concerns about the lack of fencing around the pool twice before.

A local real estate agent said when the house sold in January, the pool received a compliance certificate.

The council has installed a temporary fence around the pool and work has started getting a permanent one up.

“She gave the strongest fight, but she’s now at peace in amongst all this,” Ms Beeach, Ivy’s aunt, wrote in the GoFundMe.

Ms Beeach said Ivy was a “beautiful Emma Wiggle-loving superhero”.

Speaking to local paper The Latrobe Valley News, Ms Beeach said “It just should have never happened like this — it’s so hard to accept”.

In the funeral notice, the family wrote the young girl was taken “way too soon”.

“There aren’t really the right words in existence to describe Ivy …” the notice read.

“Ivy our amazingly unique superhero lady will be forever remembered.

“Until we dance again my lady.”
