Sydney mum’s fury as Woolworths order left out in the street

A furious shopper has slammed Woolworths, claiming delivery drivers dumped her order — worth close to $200 — unattended outside her house.

A furious shopper has taken to social media to slam Woolworths, claiming delivery drivers for the grocery giant dumped her order — worth close to $200 — unattended outside her house.

Rea, a Sydney mum-of-two, posted her complaint on the official Woolworths Facebook page, writing that she couldn’t believe what she found.

Photos showed multiple plastic bags waiting on the street outside the gate of her house, with Rea writing that “anyone” walking by could’ve taken the good’s for themselves.

“I think your partner delivery driver service needs to be reconsidered or given appropriate training on how to deliver groceries to the front door,” she wrote alongside the pictures.

“To say I’m annoyed is an understatement. Between a screaming baby, cooking dinner, cleaning and being lucky I hadn’t left yet to pick my eldest son up from childcare, I find this.

“$190 worth of shopping left in the middle of the footpath for anyone to just take.”

She added that “there were double the amount of bags” left on the footpath “before I took the photo”.

The incident left other shoppers in disbelief, with a Woolworths spokesman told news.com.au they were investigating the incident.

“We pride ourselves on the service level of our home deliveries and we’re disappointed to receive the customer’s report,” he said.

“We’ve made contact with the customer and are working through an appropriate resolution.”

News.com.au understands that Rea’s order was one of thousands of deliveries carried about by the supermarket every day across the country.

It’s not the first time they’ve been called out on their delivery practices — an 84-year-old grandmother was left “embarrassed and confused” when her online order was left 300m from her home, in the pouring rain.

While the service “works most of the time”, Doreen’s daughter, Sam, told the Daily Mail that on this particular occasion, by the time the groceries were found at Doreen’s retirement village, they looked like they’d been run over.

Woolworths replaced the delivery — but Sam told the website that it was “beside the point”.

“Incidents like this push the price of groceries up for everyone,” she said.

“She was upset, but more upset that staff from the retirement village she lives in had to clean it all up.”

Posting photos of the unsalvageable groceries to the supermarket’s Facebook page, Sam said the delivery driver “hung up on her”.

“The driver did call but I could barely hear him and he kept saying unit 15 — I said to go [to] the reception if he was lost but he hung up on me and about two minutes later I got a text saying they had been delivered,” she told the Daily Mail.

“We had to clean up the mess and throw all bags away.”

Sam thanked Woolworths for replacing her mother’s groceries, and said she was looking forward to learning the outcome of the investigation they launched after the incident.

Many online users were shocked at the state of the elderly customer’s groceries, describing it as a “disgrace”.

“That’s awful, your poor mum,” one person commented.

“Outrageous!!” said another, while a third said it was “horrendous”.
