Fury over elderly Sydney woman’s ‘smashed’ Woolworths delivery
Woolworths is investigating claims an elderly customer’s groceries were “dumped” on a road after photos showed the items were inedible.
A Sydney woman was left furious after she claimed her 84-year-old mother’s Woolworths groceries were left “dumped” and “smashed” in the rain, 300 metres away from where she lived.
The supermarket giant has now launched an investigation into the matter, marking it as a “matter of urgency”.
Sharing to Facebook, the daughter of the customer claimed the Woolworths delivery driver had hung up on her when he couldn’t locate their unit.
“They were dumped in the rain around 300 metres away and looked like they had been smashed or run over,” the woman wrote on Facebook.
“We had to clean up the mess and throw all bags away.”
She shared several photos of the groceries with one bag showing a can of tinned fruit and a bottle of soft drink had been flattened, while another bag showed a packet of chips had burst open, along with a loaf of bread.
Woolworths replaced the groceries with the customer’s daughter thanking the supermarket giant.
“We pride ourselves on the service level of our home deliveries and we’re disappointed to have fallen below our usual standard on this occasion,” a Woolworths spokespeson told news.com.au.
“We’ve been in contact with the customer to apologise and will be looking into this as a matter of urgency.”
The daughter of the customer said she was looking forward to learning the outcome of the retailer’s investigation.
Many online users were shocked at the state of the elderly customer’s groceries, describing it as a “disgrace”.
“That’s awful, your poor mum,” one person commented.
“Outrageous!!” said another, while a third said it was “horrendous”.
