Sophie Cachia announces split from fiancee Madeleine Garrick

Australian influencer Sophie Cachia has made a shock announcement about her relationship with fiancee Madeleine Garrick.

Sophie Cachia reflects on life after marriage

Sophie Cachia has announced she’s split from fiancee Madeleine Garrick just days after jetting to Italy to visit her.

The popular mummy blogger, who was previously married to former AFL star Jaryd Cachia, shared a statement stating she had made the “decision” to end her relationship with the basketball player just seven months after she proposed.

Despite not detailing the reason for the split, the 32-year-old said the split was painful and hinted at a breach of trust as she explained she wanted to set a “good example” for her two children.

Their break-up comes just a month after Maddie moved to Florence to work for a local women’s basketball team, with Sophie returning from a quick trip to see her over the weekend.

“It is with sadness and a great deal of pain that I have unfortunately made the decision to end my relationship,’ Sophie wrote on Instagram Stories on Sunday.

“When I proposed, I did it with the guarantee of loyalty, trust, honesty and respect from my end.

“Despite the great deal of love I still hold, I have made this decision to lead by example for what I know I deserve in life for myself, and for my children – because we are all worthy.”

Sophie went on to explain that “while I am hurting, life must go on”, stating she’ll continue to work and be a mum despite her heartache.

“I still have to show up for work with my businesses and most importantly be a mum and role model to my two children,” she said.

“This is unfortunately a position I really didn’t want to be in. Therefore, I beg of you, please let me be, to protect my children, my mental health and allow us to heal and move forward.

“I will not be commenting any further.”

Fans of Sophie and Maddie have expressed their shock at the announcement, with some pointing out the pair seemed happy in social media posts just days ago.

On Friday, Maddie shared a photo of Sophie during her trip to Italy, writing: “Thanks for coming and everything you do.”

Sophie, who has two kids with her ex-husband and has been open about being bisexual with her followers, proposed to Maddie in March with a stunning 3-stone ring that held a special meaning.

The influencer had a “vision of 3 diamonds to represent myself, Bobby & Florence in Maddie’s ring,” she said at the time, adding they were “having a ball celebrating”.

In 2021, Sophie opened up about the moment she came out to her then-husband Jaryd and how she was “ostracised” by her friends for her new relationships in a revealing podcast.

During an episode of Sean Szeps’ podcast, Come Out Wherever You Are, she detailed the challenges of discovering her sexuality, stating there were “movements and changes” in her marriage before for two years before their separation in September 2019.

“We definitely allowed each other freedom to explore, we were still a couple, still living together, still a family, still having our own private sex life, but we were able to explore with other people,” she said.

“There were a lot of people that go ‘they separated because she’s lesbian’ but that was not the case.

“It opened doors for me to explore all these new parts of myself.”

Sophie rose to online fame when she began her “warts and all” parenting blog The Young Mummy. She now has over 265,000 followers.
