Sad update on John Singleton after split from seventh wife, death of daughter

A Sydney man worth almost $800m has had an unimaginable year after losing his daughter and wife in the space of a month.

Sydney millionaire John Singleton has checked into a popular wellness retreat following the shock death of his daughter less than a month after his seventh divorce.

The entrepreneur’s daughter Dawn, 25, was one of six people killed in the Bondi Junction massacre on April 13.

The unthinkable loss came less than a month after the 82-year-old confirmed he had split from wife Sarah Warry, a woman almost half his age who fell for his “wicked” sense of humour and romantic text messaging.

Now the radio mogul, known as Singo, has “packed himself off” to a Californian wellness resort in a bid to “find inner peace”, according to a report by The Daily Telegraph.

Guests at the luxury health retreat, believed to be The Pearl Laguna, enjoy daily yoga sessions coupled with high-end amenities, including spa treatments and “alkaline” foods.

An average stay at the heath and wellness destination estimated to cost around $10,000.

It comes after 2GB host Ray Hadley revealed on air that he had been the one to break the news to the Macquarie Radio Network owner that Dawn was one of the victims in the horror attack in April.

“I got a text from Singo about half past six, pleading for me to ring him,” he told 3AW.

“Didn’t know what it was about, we’ve been mates for 30 years.”

Hadley choked back tears as he recalled ringing Mr Singleton who said: “I think my Dawnie is one of those who has lost their life. I can’t confirm it, can you do something?”

Hadley said he rang the police commissioner and asked if she had the names of any of the victims.

“She said only one and confirmed that it was Dawn,” Hadley said.

“A beautiful 25-year-old girl, I’ve known her since she was born and I had the job of ringing John back and officially confirming that his dear, darling daughter had been stabbed to death by this lunatic.”

Dawn was engaged to be married to her high school sweetheart, but was brutally killed alongside five others when Joel Cauchi went on a stabbing spree in Westfield at Bondi Junction on a busy Saturday afternoon.

The other victims were architect and mother-of-two Jade Young, 47, new mum Ashlee Good, 38, security guard Faraz Tahir, 30, artist Pikria Darchia, 55, and student Cheng Yixuan, 25.

Less than a month earlier Singo, who has eight children, had revealed he’d separated from his new wife of just seven months.

“Everyone was right and we were wrong”, he told The Daily Telegraph.

“It is not the first time I have made a mistake and won’t be the last.

“I know I am half mad but mostly the other half makes up for it. Sometimes not.”

Ms Warry, 44, had previously said their relationship was “proof you can fall in love with someone over great conversation”.

“He is terrific on the text,” the mother of two told the publication in December.

“We were texting back and forth all about what I do and what he does and I really got to know him. Then we started talking, he’s such a great conversationalist, he really listens.”

Mr Singleton, who has been married previously to several high-profile women including former Miss World Belinda Green, split from his previous wife Kim Dennis, 44, earlier in 2023 – stating that he’d “never been happier” since meeting Ms Warry.

“It’s [happiness] an important thing to have in life, especially late in the second half,” he said at the time.

“You want a hassle-free joyful life, you want to give and not take, and you want someone to share things with. People who don’t have someone to share things with, it’s a great loss, someone to look at a sunset with.

“When you see something beautiful you want to share it with someone, preferably a partner.”

Dennis, 44, was said to have been “blindsided” by their break-up, which went public last February.

The couple had become an item in late 2021 after Dennis, a former ad rep who previously worked at 2GB, bonded with the mogul over their mutual love of horses.

Their romance became more serious when Singo had a cardiac episode that was said to have left him at “death’s door”, prompting Dennis – a divorced mother of two – to move into his Central Coast home to look after him.

But their relationship came to an abrupt end after Singo ended things due to their “40-year age-gap”, friends claimed.

Mr Singleton has been divorced, six times in his lifetime, including a short marriage to 60 Minutes reporter Liz Hayes in the early 90s, the SMH reports.

He’s had a long string of girlfriends in recent years, even controversially dating a “couple” of women at once, according to a report by The Daily Telegraph in 2021.

Before his relationship with Dennis, Singo enjoyed an on/off relationship with New York-based public relations expert Venessa Merrin.

The pair began dating in 2016 according to Daily Mail Australia, with the romance only coming to an end when Singo went official with Dennis in 2021.

Mr Singleton is estimated to be worth around $800 million.
