SHE’S no stranger to headlines, and tonight all eyes will be on Sydney PR Queen Roxy Jacenko as her fiery interview with 60 Minutes goes to air.

After what has been a debilitating few months for the mother-of-two, with her shock breast cancer diagnosis and her husband Oliver Curtis jailed for insider trading, the 36-year-old has held a relatively brave face — until now.

Journalist Allison Langdon — who spent the past few weeks shadowing Jacenko around her home, work and through surgery — revealed how she finally got a glimpse behind Roxy’s media-savvy mask.

“Sitting down with her, there were some moments where you could see the vulnerability,” Langdon told news.com.au.

“And I wasn’t sure if that existed.

“It was hard work to get her to show that, because she always has this front — especially now because she wants people to think she’s doing OK.”

Allison Langdon said it was a message left on her son’s Instagram account that really broke the PR queen.

Langdon, who had never met Jacenko previously, admitted she did have a preconceived opinion about the businesswoman before sitting down for the interview.

“I had no idea if I’d like or dislike her,” Langdon said.

“People love to hate without even knowing her, but regardless she intrigues us and we want to get an insight into her life.

“I think there will be people like me who had an opinion before hand, but will change it after watching her. There will also be others who, no matter what she says, won’t change their mind.”

Jacenko, who is the mother to five-year-old Pixie and two-year-old Hunter, found a lump on her left breast while showering just weeks after her husband, Oliver, was sentenced to a minimum jail term of one year for conspiracy to commit insider trading.

His verdict was only the start of a rollercoaster of hardships for the now single mum.

“When I sat in the doctor’s office and they said, ‘You have cancer,’ it was almost like I knew in my mind so much sh*t has gone wrong this must just be another thing,” she revealed in the 60 Minutes interview.

“I’m tough and yes I’m strong. I’m also inside probably a broken piece of glass in a million pieces.”

“She has such a front, and I don’t know many people who could take so many slaps as she’s taken and keep going,” Allison said of Jacenko’s diagnosis.

“So many people would hide away. But she's out there and documenting everything on social media. It’s intriguing. She’s such a polarising character.”

Roxy admitted that while she “doesn’t give a f**k what people think” when it comes to the timing of her cancer, she spoke of a particular Instagram post on her son’s social media page that struck a nerve.

“Someone wrote on Hunter’s Instagram, ‘How’s your mummy’s fake cancer?’” she said.

“It makes me angry, I mean the reality is you’d have to be sick in the head to think that someone would actually manipulate a timeline on cancer. People die from cancer.”

Langdon added: “She says she doesn’t care, but I don’t know if that’s entirely true.

“When she talks about the message left on Hunter’s Instagram account, that hurt her.”

Langdon admitted that she was surprised by Jacenko’s response when questioned about the cynics who challenged the timing of her cancer announcement.

In the 60 Minutes promotional clip, she spits, “I don’t really give a f**k what they think on my timing,” before turning her attack on Langdon, saying she needed to “change her friends”.

“The thing that really fired her up was when I asked if she had an image problem,” Langdon said.

“I asked her that because when I heard she had cancer, I thought how terrible that was.

“But then, I was quite shocked with the amount of people asking if it was legit. Does she really have cancer? What about the timing?”

Langdon said that the public’s response to Jacenko’s diagnosis made her question whether the publicity queen was capable of managing her own image.

Throughout her husband’s trial, Jacenko continued her daily snaps of designer outfits as she posed in her lift — despite the fact he had a jail term looming.

“It got me thinking as someone to manage image, she's not doing a very good job of her own,” Langdon said.

“She puts her head down and crashes through, and I admire her for that, but the thing I wanted to get through was the thick skin, and does she get it?

“I think she is very public about everything in her life,” Langdon added.

“She enraged a few people with the photos of court each day. Should she have changed her regimen on social media? Is this the reason why the trial received so much attention? I’m not sure.”

Langdon, who spent the hours ahead of Jacenko’s surgery by her bedside, said the partial removal did make her nervous — even behind the full hair and makeup.

“There were moments where she was anxious,” Langdon said.

“But right until she was led in she was making jokes about her hair and makeup.

“I don’t think anyone will ever see Roxy without her hair and makeup done. She slept on her back so she didn’t ruin hair and makeup before surgery!”

But behind the humour, Langdon is unsure whether Roxy has accepted the reality of her situation.

“Part of me feels she hasn’t dealt with the cancer diagnosis,” she said.

“I think it could come to a head one day. Roxy admits she is still reeling about what happened to Oliver, and hasn’t really processed the cancer.

“It’s really the beginning of this battle for her, and if the results come back that she needs chemotherapy, I think that will be a real moment for her and a reality check.

“She has a long and difficult path ahead.”

Roxy Jacenko’s full interview with Allison Langdon will air on 60 Minutes Sunday night at 8.30pm AEST.
