An Australian sex worker famed for being one of the “highest earners on OnlyFans” has hit back after fans criticised the social media star for suggesting she’s not “super rich”.

Anna Paul left some of her 7.2 million followers “speechless” when she was asked what fellow content creator she would be for 24 hours if she had the chance.

The question came during an interview with The Daily Telegraph on the red carpet for the 2024 TikTok Creator of the Year Awards in Sydney on Wednesday.

“It would be someone whose super super super rich,” she told the reporter.

“Like super super super super rich.

“I’d get on a yacht, I’d get on a helicopter...”

So far, so good, right? Except for one thing.

Paul has amassed her legions of loyal followers sharing almost every tiny detail of her life in the Gold Coast, starting out as a self-described “broke” teenager who began making huge sums of money as an 18-year-old when she started selling explicit content on the popular subscription site used by adult workers.

Over the years, Paul’s life has transformed from the days when she used to share her money struggles to seeing her enjoy frequent lavish holidays and expensive shopping trips.

This intricate knowledge of her life, which Paul shares in her signature daily TikTok vlogs, prompted the reporter to question the 25-year-old’s remarks.

“Don’t you do that though?” she said, to which Paul replied: “I guess so.”

But the seed had been sewed, and hundreds of viewers in the comments section also went on to call out Paul’s money remark.

“Ohhhh this doesn’t land. Whoops,” one wrote.

“Crazy thing is she is super super rich,” someone else mused.

As many declared they were “confused” by Paul’s answer.

One was so outraged by the red carpet moment that they shared their own video in response, stating that while they “loved Anna Paul”, they believed the comment was “tone deaf”.

The backlash has prompted Paul to respond in the comments section.

“Guys I was so so nervous and didn’t know what to say on the spot,” she wrote.

“I’m nervous laughing to try to move past the question cause I didn’t know what to say on the spot like that.”

Many more also defended Paul, stating they understood exactly what she meant.

“Anna Paul isn’t super super rich. She’s got lots of money to spend but she ain’t super super rich. Valid answer,” one wrote.

“We have poverty, poor, broke, getting by, balancing, has money, well off, rich, rich rich and super suuuuper rich. Anna I would classify as well off/rich,” another reasoned.

As one claimed: “As an Aussie, this is Aussie coded, not “rich person greedy” coded. Like this is just humour.”

Paul’s wealth was documented during a recent interview with the Australian Financial Review, which estimated her income at $220,000 a month, credited largely to her OnlyFans account and her recent skincare venture, Paullie.

But she hadn’t always been so fortunate, previously describing herself as “flat broke” in an interview with news.com.au.

“I know how to have a fun day without spending a lot of money but at the same time we struggled a lot – sometimes our cars would break and we would have to walk everywhere, we couldn’t drive,” she said in August 2020.

“Sometimes we didn’t have enough money to drive to the fuel station to get fuel, we had no money for a long time.”

Anna said her financial struggles “motivated” her to make more money as an adult.
