Mum-of-two Emily Skye defies ridiculous bikini ‘rule’

Aussie fitness star Emily Skye has revealed the shocking remark she receives whenever she wears a bikini simply because she’s a mum.

Aussie fitness star and mother-of-two Emily Skye has opened up about choosing to wear a bikini – even though she’s regularly told: “Mums can’t wear bikinis”.

Emily, who is the creator of Emily Skye Fit, took to Instagram earlier this week, sharing a snap of herself wearing a purple bikini.

Alongside various images of the Queensland mum posing, she told her 2.5 million followers she had shunned the ridiculous rule often enforced on women after they give birth.

“I literally live in bikinis at the moment! It’s SO hot here!” she began the post.

“Funny thing is, any time I wear a kini I get comments like ‘you’re too old to be in a bikini’, ‘put some clothes on’ and ‘you’re a mum, you shouldn’t wear that’ – huh⁉️

“What does AGE or being a MUM have to do with what you wear!” she demanded.

“Let’s stop telling others what to wear, what to do and who to be! We’re told so often to be ourselves, to be confident and to love ourselves but (when) we do we’re shut down: ‘you shouldn’t wear that’, ‘you shouldn’t do that’… bla bla bla.”

Emily, who has a four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son, said she will always be “me” and do and wear what ever she likes.

“Most importantly I want to be a positive example for my kids so they are comfortable and confident being THEMSELVES!”

The 37-year-old was instantly commended for her powerful post ️with hundreds thanking her for her “important message”.

“I love it! Love that us mums can be in or out of any clothing, without feeling tortured or not enough. Clothes (or photos) don’t make the woman within,” fellow mum and fitness celebrity Michelle Bridges wrote.

Another furious follower wrote: WHO TELLS YOU THIS?! I can’t deal! What idiots! Of course you should rock a kini …. Any age, any size, mum or not a mum … it’s your choice!!! Thanks for spreading this.”

Others were shocked people still make comments like that towards women.

“Crazy talk! I’m a mum and 50 now, still living in my kini all summer,” one woman wrote.

“You look absolutely stunning so pfft to the trolls,” added another.

Emily is known for sharing raw and honest posts and continuously reminds women to love themselves after having recently experienced “nasty” things people have said about her post-baby body.

“‘RIP fit body, Yuck, Your body is ruined, So much cellulite, Reminds me to never have kids’ – Just some of the comments I’ve been receiving about my post-partum body!” Emily wrote in a post in December 2020.

“You know what though? I’d rather it come from others than myself. What I think of myself and constantly tell myself is FAR more important than what others think and say to me,” the mother-of-two added.

The Gold Coast fitness guru, who is also the co-owner of James Cosmetics, gave birth to her second child in mid-2020 – and if there is anything her fans have learned, it’s that she never shies away from revealing the “truth” when it comes to her body.

She purposely posts photos showing her differences, to prove no one is perfect – not even social media influencers.

“I’ve said this before – I LOVE my body so much and am grateful for everything it has done for me & my kids!” she continued in her post.

Earlier this year, the 37-year-old said there was a lot of pressure on women to “be everything and to look a certain way”.

“No matter what you see on social media today, tomorrow, next week, next month … Do not let it make you feel sh*t about yourself because your belly isn’t washboard flat or your booty isn’t round or you’re not ‘slim thick’.

“How a body shape can be in fashion is beyond me!”

Emily went on to say a woman’s body is “amazing” just as it is.
