McDonald’s drive-through sign declares ‘no one wants to work anymore’

A customer at the fast-food giant’s drive-through spotted a brutally honest sign about delays, prompting huge support online.

‘Savage’ sign spotted at Macca’s drive-through

A sign displayed at a McDonald’s drive-through apologising for delays has gone viral for its “savage” explanation to why the restaurant was short-staffed.

Footage shared to TikTok by someone ordering at an unidentified US restaurant shows a bright yellow sign displayed above the “order here” station.

It reads: “We are short staffed.

“Please be patient with the staff that did show up.

“No one wants to work anymore.”

The hospitality industry in America has been badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with workers feeling “skittish” about returning after mass lay-offs due to alarming virus numbers.

Other reports state US unemployment benefits are so good in the aftermath of the pandemic that “it pays to stay unemployed”.

The short clip was shared by user @brittanyjade903 on Saturday with the caption: “Y’all. Our McDonald’s is savage AF.”

The video has been viewed over a million times at the time of publication and has received a huge reaction online.

Many empathised with the employees who had gone to work and found themselves in the sticky situation while others praised the sign for being “honest”.

“So true, don’t get mad at the ones there working. They aren't the reason it’s short staffed,” one person wrote.

“It’s sad because it’s true. We’ve been trying to hire people at our restaurant and no one wants to work,” another said.

“Nobody wants to come to work atm, it’s a problem every business has right now … that’s what happens when everyone is still getting unemployment and refusing to work,” one woman added.

While another woman, who said she worked at a different Macca’s restaurant, said it was the same where she worked.

“We are desperate for help,” she explained.

Some also said they “respected the honesty” and praised the team for standing up for themselves.

“Haha, Macca’s telling it how it is,” one said.

“This is every restaurant in America right now. Be kind and don’t take it out on the staff,” one reasoned.

“People still refuse to wear a mask, no wonder no one wants to deal with them anymore,” another agreed.

“This is so freaking true,” one man wrote.

A few thought the sign was a bad move, saying it might put people off.
