A comedian has been praised for how she handled a man who heckled her, with many calling him out for “mansplaining”.

Julie Kim, a comedian, spoke about her elective caesarean birth, and a man put his hand up to get Ms Kim’s attention.

He said he read scientific studies for fun, before turning to the audience and telling them it was “very important” to have a natural birth.

“That’s how you give immunity to your child,” he declared.

Ms Kim, who had previously tried to cut the man off by declaring she was the “star of the show”, decided to end the conversation.

“Yes, but you don’t know that after I had my C-section, they were like ‘Do you want to hold her’ and I said ‘No’,” she said.

“I actually dipped her back in a few times. Thank you so much for your medical advice, sir.”

In Australia, one in three women opted for caesareans in 2022, as per the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

In 2019, UK scientists claimed that babies born by caesarean have a greater risk of gut health problems later in life.

Dr Trevor Lawley, from Wellcome Sanger Institute, told the BBC at the time; “What surprised me and scared me was the amount of healthcare bugs showing up in these children.

“It could be 30 per cent of their total microbiome.

“But what excites me is we have an amazing body of data now that we can build on, to think about how to properly establish the human ecosystem, starting at birth.”

However, there are several reasons women opt for a caesarean — for instance, if they have had an emergency C-section in the past and are therefore more likely to medically require another one.

Emergency C-sections can be because a woman has laboured too long or if the baby is in the wrong position.

Many people called out the man for commenting on something he has no experience with.

“Did he think you had a C-section for fun,” one asked.

Another said: “The way ppl think C-sections are easier?!?! Sure. Let’s just cut through all those layers of skin and flesh and muscle for fun. Also I would have died and taken my mother along with me.”

“And what’s his point? There are many reasons to have a C-section birth, many include saving the life of mother and baby. Better a C-section then,” one said.

One social media user said: “I’m choosing to have an elective C-section the second time around. First time was an emergency C-section.”

“The way he starts shaking his head and motioning that he’s had enough once you clap back as if he didn’t start it,” one said.
One person said: “She handled this hilariously. 10/10.”

“The NERVE,” another added.

Another commented: “Not only did he mansplain a C-section to a woman who had one he did it to a comedian in front of a crowd. How did he think that was going to go?”
