‘Lovely, crazy’ fourth-generation farmer and TikTok star dies by suicide
Teen TikTok star Caitlyn Loane, who shared videos online of her incredible farming lifestyle in Tasmania, has died by suicide.
A “bright, bubbly, beautiful” young TikTok star is being mourned after taking her own life, days after posting a video online.
Caitlyn Loane took pride in promoting women in agriculture, and according to The Mercury, planned to one day run her family’s 600-hectare cattle farm in Latrobe, northern Tasmania.
The 19-year-old shared snippets of her life as a livestock manager for the Dunroan Shorthorns farm in videos to TikTok, where she had amassed an impressive following of 51,000 people.
Her most recent video, posted on June 27, was a cheeky compilation of photos to a song asking, “how far would you drive for the girl of your dreams?”
In text across the top of the video she wrote, “what about to Tasmania?”
More than 160,000 people watched the video, which now features countless comments wishing that she rests in peace.
Her dad Phillip Loane told the publication he couldn’t put words to the grief the family was experiencing.
“She was a lovely, crazy young woman who was an invaluable member of our family,” he said.
Caitlyn’s mum Richele said her daughter’s smile “lit up the room” and she has never been scared to get her hands dirty.
The teen, a fourth-generation farmer, “was so talented and she loved mentoring younger people”, according to her mum.
Just last month she told publication TasWeekend about how she was in the process of planting a paddock of peas – it was her first crop and one she hoped to continue planting for years to come.
The interaction took place at annual field day AgFest, where she was overseeing young cattle judges.
Loved ones of the teen have taken to social media to pay tribute to Caitlyn, including one of her friends from school Kaycee Heyward.
“Oh how my heart hurts to know you have left us all, the bright, bubbly, beautiful but crazy girl. I will never ever forget the fond moments and memories we have together,” a Facebook post read in part.
“What a phenomenal young lady so many of us had the privilege to meet and share memories with. Rest easy Caitlyn Loane,” another devastated woman wrote.
Caitlyn was a player for the Devonport Football Club, which has also shared its grief online.
“It is with deep sadness and regret that the Devonport Football Club acknowledges the sudden passing of one of our female players, Caitlyn Loane,” a post to Facebook read.
“The Board, the members, players, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters of the Devonport Football Club convey our sincere condolences and warmest thoughts to Caitlyn’s family and friends, which, of course, includes her teammates in the DFC Senior Women’s team.
“The past week has put into context what really matters in life, and has reminded us all that football, as unifying as it is, is just a game after all. The priority of the Devonport Football Club at present is to provide an empathetic, supportive network to all associated with the club, with particular focus on those most affected by the tragic passing of Caitlyn.”
Another friend said she would remember Caitlyn as a woman with a “bubbly personality and a heart of gold”.
She was described a “very special girl” who was “loved by many and made so many people smile” in another post.
“You will be truly missed and some things will never be the same again, but you will remain forever young,” it read.
