Ella Ding’s ‘surprise’ relationship update after 1 year of dating

A former MAFS star has left friends, family and fans in shock after dropping a huge “surprise” at her 30th birthday party.

A former Married At First Sight star has “surprised” fans by revealing she tied-the-knot with her fiance of just one month.

Ella Ding and her partner Guy Palermo got engaged at the end of February after dating for less than a year.

But it seems the loved-up pair couldn’t wait to walk down the aisle, and have already become “Mr and Mrs” at an intimate ceremony in Ding’s homecity of Melbourne on Friday.

The reality star turned popular influencer shared a video of their Big Day, dated April 5 2024 on Saturday, with the caption: “We said I do.”

The 3-minute clip begins with adorable photos and videos of Ding as a child before cutting to footage of her getting ready to walk down the aisle.

The blushing bride, who wore a white mini dress adorned with “diamonds” and a statement bow in her hair, can then be heard making her vows to her new husband.

“I believe every experience we have been through in life has prepared us to be ready for each other now,” she said.

“Guy you are my best friend, and I love you so much, thank you for choosing me and what I come with quirks and all.

“I can’t wait to do the rest of my life with you.”

Meanwhile Palermo’s vows were equally as moving, describing Ding as “the single most beautiful thing in the world”.

Ding didn’t just surprise her 563,000 followers with the announcement, a string of posts shared to her Instagram Stories reveals even family and friends weren’t aware the pair were getting hitched, instead believing they were attending Ding’s 30th birthday celebrations.

Footage shows Ding and her new husband revealed they’d tied-the-knot earlier in the day by playing the video she’d shared on Instagram to guests at her birthday party.

“Pulled off the surprise of the century, I’m on such a high. What a night, what a couple and what a love story,” best friend and former MAFS co-star Domenica Calarco said.

“The best surprise,” former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Molly Rogers added.

“OMG, such an incredible night,” Cassidy McGill replied.

Calarco, who co-hosts the Sit With Us podcast with Ding, also shared a video on TikTok showing her pure shock at discovering her bestie had got married.

The clips also revealed Ding had changed outfits, slipping into in a silver sparkly dress that featured a daring thigh-split for the birthday bash turned wedding reception.

Fans of the star are clearly elated with many sharing their happiness at the news.

“No way, I am so happy for you,” one shared.

“I’m sobbing, so beautiful,” another wrote.

Ding and Palermo, who got engaged during a run through a Sydney park, have been dating since April 2023.

In a touching Instagram post announcing their engagement Ding wrote: “️The man of my actual dreams proposed to me with my friends and family. I love you. I love us.

“And thank you for choosing me. Everything that we have been through lead us back to each other, it was all worth it.”

The pair dated briefly during lockdown, and had also gone on a date three years prior, with Ding writing on Instagram last year they had “always had a little thing for each other”.

But it was only after bumping into each other at Beyond The Valley Festival over New Year’s 2022 that they reconnected and love blossomed.

Ding appeared on the 2022 season of the popular dating show and was partnered with Mitch Eynaud, but the pair went separate ways at the end of the experiment, leaving the on-screen bride “heartbroken” at the time.
