Coles shelf stacked with Woolworths homebrand juice

A Coles shopper has made a bewildering discovery at her local store – prompting staff to question whether they were being “pranked”.

Customer discovers Woolies item in Coles

A Coles customer has made a baffling discovery during her grocery shop after spotting Woolworths-branded juice on the shelves of her local store.

It’s the second time in just under a month that a Woolies product has been found at a rival supermarket, with an Aldi shopper in Queensland finding Woolworths-branded cocktail frankfurts in the fridge section.

Port Lincoln woman Luci Anne told news.com.au she was shocked to discover Woolworths’ Multivitamin Juice while shopping at Whyalla Coles on Saturday evening.

Luci shared videos of her find on TikTok which have since been viewed a combined 646,000 times.

She told news.com.au, Coles staff had been in disbelief over the find and it was the first time she had ever seen a Woolies item stocked at the supermarket.

“The young dude that helped me at the self-service said, ‘Surely someone is pranking us,’ and then showed his co worker and they had a laugh about it,” Lucie said.

“I told them there was a whole box on the shelf he went to got it off and I got my bottle of juice for free.”

Coles is now investigating the incident, with a spokeswoman telling news.com.au: “All cartons are scanned at different points throughout our supply chain and we’ll be following this up with our supplier and Distribution Centre today to find out how this product ended up on our shelves.”

Woolworths declined to comment to news.com.au.

Both Coles and Woolworths sell own-brand multivitamin juice for $2 per two litre bottle.

On TikTok, Luci showed how the Woolworths juice had been stocked on the bottom shelf of the juice section next to the Coles-branded multivitamin juice.

“Even Coles knows Woolworths is superior,” she captioned the video.

In a follow-up video, Luci showed how she attempted to buy and scan the juice at a self-service desk, only to get an “item not found” message on screen.

Commenters were equally as baffled as Luci, with one person commenting: “As someone who works at Coles: HOW????? That wouldn’t even scan at check-outs.”

“There’s a glitch in the matrix,” one person joked.

Others claimed it was proof supermarket products came from the “same factory”.

“I work at Woolies and sometimes we get other store’s shipments,” one commenter claimed. “We have gotten stuff for IGA once (like Black and Gold brand).”

When an Aldi shopper spotted Woolies-branded frankfurts at the German supermarket last month and shared it on Facebook, many customers took it as proof shoppers were being “ripped off” at some stores.

“This just proves they use same suppliers and with the look-a-like packaging as printers for different brands can use same ink,” one woman claimed.

“It only proves we get ripped off elsewhere,” another said.
