Queensland shopper finds product with Woolworths logo at Aldi

A Qld shopper shared a photo of her unexpected find in Aldi, with some stating it’s evidence the supermarket is just as good as expensive brands.

Aldi: The best special buys of all time

A confused shopper has sparked conversation about the differences between own brand supermarket products after claiming to find a Woolies branded item on sale in Aldi.

The Queensland customer shared a photo of a bag of Woolworths Cocktail Frankfurts while doing her groceries in Aldi, describing the find as “interesting”.

Fellow shoppers in the Aldi Mums Facebook group claimed it was “proof” Australian supermarkets use the same suppliers.

Aldi Australia declined to comment on the speculation when contacted by news.com.au – but the post sparked conversation about paying more for the same items in different packaging.

“This just proves they use same suppliers and with the look-a-like packaging as printers for different brands can use same ink,” one woman claimed.

“It only proves we get ripped off elsewhere,” another said.

“Yep, shows people how the same product is just rebranded and priced differently according to each individual company,” one person agreed.

A 500g packet of Woolworths Cocktail Frankfurts retails for $2.50. Aldi stocks Berg Cocktail Frankfurts which are priced at $2.39.

In response, one woman suggested that while the items come from the same factory, the products will differ slightly.

“Anything that is the grocery stores own brand is made exactly to their specifications,” she said.

It’s not clear how the product ended up in Aldi, but many suggested a rogue packet ended up in the wrong box at the factory.

“It’s likely that the packaging line went into the Aldi boxes instead of Woolworths. Mistakes happen,” one said.

Someone else wrote: “It all comes from the same factories, just get labelled differently for different stores. Same as breads from Tip Top they still put it in an Aldi bag.”

The mum who shared the photo responded in the comments explaining she had grabbed a “normal pack and this was the next pack behind” on the Aldi shelf.

However, someone else reasoned a shopper could have gone to Woolies first and dropped the frankfurts from their bag while in Aldi.

Others wanted to know if the item “scanned cheaper than Woolworths” with others suggesting it was unlikely.

News.com.au has contacted Woolworths for comment.

It’s not the first time it has been speculated Aldi products are made by manufacturers of some well-known brands for a cheaper price.

In February, one woman shared “proof” Aldi’s Confidence Extra Soft toilet paper was made by Quilton – a theory long speculated by shoppers.

Sharing a snap as evidence, the woman showed two rolls of toilet paper bearing the signature cloud pattern of the Confidence brand.

But inside the toilet paper, the cardboard centre is adorned with the purple Quilton logo.

“Is the Aldi Confidence toilet paper made by Quilton with a different print and cheaper price?!” she wrote.

“Someone in manufacturing forgot to change the ‘core’ for the Aldi toilet roll!”

A pack of eight rolls of 3-ply Confidence Extra Soft costs $3.49 in Aldi (around 44 cents a roll), while a pack of six Quilton’s classic “3 ply softness” costs $5.80 in Coles (close to 97 cents a roll).

The photo quickly attracted lots of attention, with many people describing the “stuff up” as good news.

“This proves we’re right,” one person wrote.

“I always suspected this! Love the price and the quality!” another said.

“That’s actually good value – I’ve been buying Quilton for $8,” someone else chipped in.

One excited shopper wrote: “I used to buy Quilton all the time until I found this one from Aldi and thought it was pretty similar in quality. Now I know why.”
