‘Cocaine Cassie’ Sainsbury marries wife before coming home to Australia
Cassandra Sainsbury, famously known for her botched cocaine smuggling attempt in Colombia, has dropped a bombshell on Instagram.
Convicted Australian drug smuggler Cassandra Sainsbury has revealed she has gotten married to her computer technician fiancee.
Sainsbury was found guilty of trying to smuggle 5.8 kilograms of cocaine out of Colombia in April 2017 at 22 years old.
The personal trainer from Adelaide was quickly dubbed “Cocaine Cassie” and made international headlines.
She spent three years of a six-year sentence behind bars in notorious El Buen Pastor women’s prison before she walked free in April 2020. However, she had to stay in Colombia for another 27 months as part of her parole conditions.
Sainsbury shared the news of her engagement to her partner in Colombia, Tatiana, on Instagram in November last year.
And in similar fashion, has now announced they have wed.
She posted a photo of the pair with the hashtag #JUSTMARRIED.
Sainsbury is permitted to leave the South American nation from May onwards and the couple is said to plan to divide their time between Australia and Colombia.
When Sainsbury was first locked up she was engaged to be married to Australian man Scott Broadbridge.
Inside prison, she later got engaged to a fellow prisoner named Joli but the relationship ended after her release.
In an interview in July last year, Sainsbury announced details of a new relationship saying her unnamed partner was a computer technician.
“She doesn’t know to the extent that I’m quite well known back in Australia,” she said.
“But here they don’t understand that kind of (fame). In Colombia there’s so much of it (cocaine smuggling).”
“It was a really unexpected relationship,’ Sainsbury added in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.
“We had shared a group of friends and one night we went out for a birthday and we literally hit it off.
“‘I feel like I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. It’s nice to feel like I can be myself with no judgement from someone who is always there for me.”
