Man charged for entering Sydney station naked
A man has been charged after he was caught on CCTV entering a Sydney petrol station wearing nothing but a pair of thongs and sunglasses.
A man has been charged after he walked into a Sydney petrol station last week wearing nothing but a pair of thongs and sunglasses.
At about 1.45pm on Monday police issued a 48-year-old man with a court attendance notice for the offence of wilful and obscene exposure.
He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on February 25.
It comes after CCTV footage of the incident was posted online, showing the naked man casually walking into Edgecliff BP and using his phone at the counter to pay for petrol.
The footage is believed to have been captured on Thursday last week.
Pictures and footage of the situation was posted to Twitter by Bruno Bouchet, the manager for radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands.
“Real life version of that dream you have when you’re completely starkers in public,” he wrote above a snap of the man walking into the petrol station.
Mr Bouchet told the Daily Mail that, despite the nudity, the worker behind the counter was also concerned at the man’s lack of mask.
“He thought it was crazy like anyone else,” he said.
“But there was no conversation about what was happening.
“He was concerned he wasn’t wearing a mask, but he was shocked and wanted to be professional, so didn’t say anything.”
The owner of a nearby business told The Daily Telegraph that the man’s behaviour was “shameful” and this was the first time something like this had happened in the area.
Under NSW law it is illegal to “wilfully and obscenely expose his or her person … within view from a public place or a school”.
The maximum penalty for this offence is six months in prison or a $1100 fine.
