Carrie Bickmore launches popular beanie initiative

Carrie Bickmore’s popular brain cancer beanies have sold out online in "record time".

"Wow! We have been blown away and sold out of beanies online in record time," the official carriesbeanies4braincancer.com website read last night.

"Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! If you would like to support brain cancer research you can still donate."

There is still hope for those who missed out - just head to one of the selected Cotton On stores, but be quick as there is limited stock available.

Bickmore captured the hearts of the nation during Tuesday's emotional The Project special dedicated to brain cancer awareness, with more than $3.5 million raised for her foundation.

While the show was filled with laughs, performances and touching stories, the beloved television personality was overcome with emotion as she shared a glimpse into her personal battle with the disease that took her husband, and father of her son Oliver, Greg Lange, in 2010.

By the end of the program, the 39-year-old Gold Logie winner was crying tears of gratitude as the fundraising sum for her charity Beanies for Brain Cancer was revealed.

"This is the look of a woman blown away by your support. You literally crashed the internet!!!!" the TV host posted on her Instagram today.

"Can’t wait to share how much we have raised for brain cancer research. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

And now!
And now!

Bickmore announced the relaunch of her popular Beanies 4 Brain Cancer initiative after a disappointing setback earlier in the year.

In April, Bickmore revealed her 2020 campaign was put on hold as the restrictions in place amid the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible for fundraising to continue.

“We are so bummed, we’ve been working so hard and have hundreds of thousands of beanies waiting get on your beautiful heads,’’ she told her nearly one million followers on Instagram, adding, “Unfortunately corona has thrown up too many challenges at this point.”

But the mum-of-three recently revealed her “beanies are back,” after finding a way to bring back the popular items.

She shared a glamorous snap wearing the blush-coloured beanie from the ladies range while reminding fans the fight is far from over.

“Brain Cancer survival rates haven’t changed in 30 years. Currently there is no cure. These devastating statistics won’t change unless more research is done,” Bickmore said in the post.

“This is where you come in … Please buy a beanie on July 14 at carriesbeanies4braincancer.com and help support vital brain cancer research.

“Together we can make a difference in the fight against brain cancer.”

So far, Carrie’s beanie efforts have helped raise more $12 million for brain cancer research since she first launched the campaign in 2015 – all the more reason for its comeback in 2020.

The 39-year-old lost her late husband Greg Lange to brain cancer in 2010 following a 10-year battle with the disease.

She didn’t want anyone to have to experience that pain and so turned her own heartache into the charity, which aims to raise funds for research.

Carrie also unveiled the unisex and kids ranges on Thursday night.

Since announcing the relaunch, Carrie’s post has been inundated with messages of support from fans, co-stars and fellow celebrities.

“Can’t wait @bickmorecarrie – well done on your tireless work,” TV presenter Sally Obermeder wrote.

“We’ve all beanie waiting for this,” wrote Zoe Foster Blake.

“Can’t wait to get this. They look beautiful as always,” tennis star Jelena Dokic said, while radio host Ryan Fitzgerald added “great news”.

Beanies and caps – which retail for $29.95 for adults and $24.95 for kids – are available through Cotton On or by visiting Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.
