Bride’s mum secretly marries fiance’s dad, making him her stepbrother
Penny was set on marrying her long-term partner – but then, her mum dropped a bombshell confession that changed everything.
*Penny could barely believe her ears when her mum *Deb announced out of the blue that she had just eloped.
As far as the 24-year-old American woman had known, her mum hadn’t been dating anyone. In fact, she assumed that Deb had been single since her divorce – which had happened after Deb had an affair with a co-worker when Penny was 16.
“Upon questioning, it turns out that she and my fiancé’s dad had been dating in secret since January and got married yesterday … making my fiance my ‘stepbrother’,” Penny wrote on Reddit.
“My mum cheated on my dad … now she married my fiancé’s dad”
“My mum said that I should now cancel my wedding because it would be inappropriate to marry my ‘stepbrother’,” Penny added.

By way of background, Deb and Jason’s dad *Rick met in January when the pair were introduced for the first time to start planning their children’s wedding.
Rick had been single since his wife, Jason’s mum, died from cancer two years earlier. So although Penny was happy that he had finally found someone, she was less than thrilled about the fact that he was with her mother.
In fact, Penny was so shocked by the secret relationship that she couldn’t help but wonder if Deb had set this whole thing up in order to ruin her life.
“Growing up my mum always made everything about her, so it’s not out of character for her,” Penny angrily explained.
“First, she cheated on my dad, and now she went and married my fiancé’s dad knowing full well I was about to marry my fiance.
“Mum called me an ungrateful b**ch for not approving of her marriage.”

But when Penny posed this questioned to Deb, her mum quickly shut her down, explaining that she had married Rick because she was “old” and needed to take advantage of “every opportunity” that came her way.
“She said that I was still young and that I’d have the chance to meet someone new – so I was an ungrateful b**ch for not approving of her marriage. She then accused me of wanting her to die alone,” Penny reported.
Although Penny was sure she hadn’t done anything wrong, Deb’s comments made her question things.
“I don’t think I’m the a**hole, but I just wanted to make sure because ultimately I don’t want her to have to be alone,” she wrote.
“But I should be allowed to marry my fiance as we met first. I’m also 12 weeks pregnant with my fiancé’s kid so that complicates matters more (although we haven’t told anybody yet).
“But honestly, I still don’t know how to feel about it all because this still feels kind of gross to me.”
