Anthony Albanese photo shoot for Australian Women’s Weekly dubbed an ‘overreach’
The Labor leader has showcased a new look including “bowling shoes”, tight chinos and a shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
Anthony Albanese’s new look and photo shoot has got two Australian media veterans questioning the Labor Leader’s “bowling shoes”, tight chinos and having the sleeves of his shirt rolled up.
Journalists Damien Barrett and Craig Hutchison discussed new pictures of the leader of the Opposition on their podcast, The Sounding Board.
Hutchison, who is now more businessman than the reporter, was surprised by the Labor Leader’s move to agree to the story from the Australian Women’s Weekly.
“He (Albanese) was going to run a Steven Bradbury-like campaign, he was going to shoulder arms outside off stump,” he said.
“He thought, only 25 per cent of Australians actually know who I am but that’s a lot better than making a pill of myself.”
The 47-year-old then throws to Barrett and asks him to describe one of the pictures featured in the publication.
“There’s a couple of things that immediately jump off that page. It is the ‘I’m really cool pose’. The leaning against the wall shoulder on the right side slightly lower than the shoulder on the left,” he said.
“Left hand has the designer watch, the left hand is in the pocket.
“See that shirt, the long-sleeved shirt. The look that is in these days apparently is to roll it up to the elbow. He’s done that.”
The pair giggled their way down the rest of the would-be Prime Minister’s outfit.
“The bowling shoes,” Hutchison, who is the CEO of Sports Entertainment Network which sports radio station SEN’s parent company, said.
“He’s gone with the bowling shoes. Have a look at the wheels on him.”
Barrett quipped back: “That worries me, I’ve got a pair like that. I might need to throw them out.”
By the end of the fashion debrief, Hutchison said he thought the story and shoot was an “overreach” and that Albo “doesn’t need to play his shots this early”.
The Labor leader has previously laughed off questions about his new look which include a swanky pair of glasses.
He said the switch up came about after he stepped on his old pair and is quick to downplay reports the makeover is a result of a pre-election focus group.
“I just picked them pretty quickly, myself. They’re the first pair I tried on and I looked at,” the Opposition leader said.
