Sydney mum wakes up $4.8 million richer after epic lotto win

A Sydney mother has become a multi-millionaire overnight after taking out the jackpot in Tuesday’s lottery draw.

A mother thought she was still dreaming after waking up to a phone call telling her she had won $4.8 million in the lottery.

The unnamed woman from Penrith in Sydney’s west held the only division one winning entry in the Set for Life draw 2359, which was drawn on Tuesday night.

She will take home the top prize of $4.8 million, which will be paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.

“Is this a dream? I’ve just woken up and I’m still lying in bed!” the woman told The Lott.

“I was apprehensive about answering this phone call, but I’m so glad I did.

“I don’t usually check my lottery tickets until Friday or Monday when I purchase new tickets, so I had no idea.

“I’ve been playing the same lottery numbers in Set for Life for many years, and I’ve never expected it to happen. This is a dream come true.”

The mother revealed that she currently is ill with Covid-19, so the win came as a “mood booster”.

She went on to say that she was going to keep working, but would be buying her husband a new car and visiting family overseas.

“I have Covid right now, so I’m not feeling the greatest,” she said.

“This has really boosted my mood. I can’t believe it.

“I’m going to keep working because I love what I do, and it will keep me busy. Eventually, I’ll retire, and I can feel more secure about the future.

“My husband has wanted to buy a new car, so that will probably be the first thing we’ll do.

“We might also visit family overseas and surprise them. It’s something I’ve wanted to do my whole life, and now I can!

“Thank you for the best phone call to wake up to!”

Her winning 2-game Quickpick was purchased at Nepean Square Newsagency, Shop 38 Nepean Village, 144 Station Street, Penrith.

The Nepean Square Newsagency team said they’re overjoyed to have sold a division one winning entry in Set for Life and wish the local winner all the best with her life-changing prize.

The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 4277 on Tuesday, July 19 were 2, 3, 11, 40, 37, 28, and 29, while the supplementary numbers were 1 and 7.

Across Australia, there was one division one winning entry in Set for Life draw 2539 – one in New South Wales.
