Hip, hip, hooray! Man scores $1.2 million lotto win on his birthday

The fifth person who won the division one prize in Saturday’s Lotto has been identified and realised he won on his birthday.

Blowing out candles on your birthday cake and wishing to win the lotto on your special day is a dream come true to some of us, and for one lucky winner it’s become his reality.

The young man from Sydney’s south is the fifth division one winner of Saturday’s Lotto and will receive $1.2 million.

A Sydney airport worker whose hours were cut due to COVID-19 also scooped up that amount in the draw.

Of the five winners, three were from NSW and two were from WA.

The Engadine man said it was his ‘most rewarding birthday present’ after receiving the ticket as part of a gift pack for his birthday from his father and stepmother.

“I hadn’t checked it yet and didn’t even know there was a winner from Engadine until they called me yesterday and reminded me to check it,” he said.

“They were pretty desperate to find out if they bought me the winning ticket.

A NSW man is the fifth person who won the division one prize in Saturday’s Lotto and realised he won on his birthday.

“I planned to check it at the newsagency this morning, but I was thinking about it all night and couldn’t sleep.

“At about one o’clock this morning (Tuesday) it got the better of me, and I checked it online, and that’s when I realised I had won.

“I haven’t slept a wink since but it’s a pretty good reason not to get any sleep!”

The Sydneysider said the first thing he’d buy himself was a new car.

“I don’t know what type I’ll buy just yet, but anything will be better than the bomb I’ve got now,” he said.

“I’ll use some to pay off some debts and then I’ll have a think about the rest!”

The winning numbers in Saturday’s Lotto draw 4093 were 34, 12, 37, 24, 5, and 26 with 3 and 2 as the supplementary numbers.

So far in 2020, 311 Australians have won the division won prize, with 80 being NSW players.
