A young girl has melted hearts across the world after a video of her being fitted for a wig went viral online.

In the clip, 10-year-old Klara, who has alopecia and Down syndrome, is seen absolutely beaming and playing with her new brunette locks.

The wig was gifted to Klara by Wigs by Tiffani, a business that provides free wigs to children with health-related hair loss.

The US-based business owner Tiffani Calix shared the video of the moment Klara saw herself with hair for the first time.

“Sweet 10-year-old Klara was the absolute highlight of my week!” she captioned the clip.

“She is so special, so beautiful, so brave, so confident and has the sweetest personality!”

Though many commented on how sweet Klara was to shut her eyes tightly before the wig was fitted to her scalp, more were left in tears over her reaction.

“This is just precious! Her smile lit up the room and tells the whole story,” one Instagram user wrote.

“Her smile and gestures are the sweetest. She is a sweetheart and looks great,” another wrote.

“I have alopecia and I cry everything every time I watch a video like that,” one woman said.

“OMG that smile of hers is so beautiful! Brought tears to my eyes,” another commented.

Across TikTok and Twitter, too, people said Klara’s smile “lit up the room”.

Ms Calix started Wigs by Tiffani as an online business after she faced post-partum hair loss. She now sells a variety of wigs, toppers, tools and hair accessories.

Individual wigs from her shop can range between $US1150 ($A1700) to $US2200 ($A3260), according to the website.

But after receiving an overwhelming number of requests for children’s wigs, she said she couldn’t “turn away kids” in need.

Now, because of the success of her business, she can provide wigs for free to children aged between eight and 17 who are suffering from medical-related hair loss.

Ms Calix told Fox News she was thankful her business was succeeding, and that she cried almost every day whenever she saw the impact a wig has on a child’s confidence.

“It’s something I had never experienced as a child, but I can see it in my chair,” she said.

“When you’re still young and in school, kids can be so mean.

“If you look a little different when you have no hair, they feel like they’ve lost a little part of themselves.”

Australian social enterprise Sustainable Salons is the largest charitable collector of ponytails to turn into wigs in the world. More than 187,900 ponytails have been collected by the organisation.

All hair donated goes to charitable organisations like Variety and the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation and wigmakers to change the lives of people and kids just like Klara with medically induced hair loss.
